Radiator fans are not going on when hot have checked fuses ect still no go when hot see there are plug ins with1 & 2 fan on them are they likely to cause problems anyone had similar problem

Find the fan sensor and if only1 wire on it short it to ground. and see if the fans start. If they do probably faulty sensor.Best if you can find a circuit diagram or ask an auto sparky if that won't work

Thanks Kamitchell looks like its part of wiring loom no single wires to sensors ran a wire direct to fans and they work fine changed fan plug in things from another car but no go

you should be looking on the engine for the fans temp sensor.
They only turn on when the temp gets up to a certain point.

the fans are ECU controlled on those, via a relay. Check fuses in the engine bay box, they are probably 40 amp fuses, then check the fan relay which should also be in the engine bay.

Failing that you could try run an open circuit or closed circuit on the ECU's temp sensor (the two wire one) and see if that triggers it. running an open or short circuit on the temp sensor will tell the computer its really hot, one will do it but I can't remember which way around it is.

Thanks kamitchellprobably is sensor as temp shows normal and it gets hot without fans going !

Sensor should be near the top radiator hose, most likely around the thermostat housing.

What model Primera! P10! P10E! P11!WP11! FHP11! P12! WP12!
What engine! SR18Di! SR18DE! SR20DE! QG18DE! QG18DD! QR20DE! QR25DE QR25DD! SR20VE!

So many factors, SR series have the sensor around the back.near brake mastercyl. Pretty hard to get to, use a 19mm tube socket and flexi head to get the engine coolant temperature sensor. Good luck

Hi p10 its not near rad hoses or thermo housing yes think its at back thanks

Sender is on intake manofold near oil filter found fans work when air con is on but not on engine temp alone also thermostat was stuck closed and as with a lot of vehicles temp gauge showed normal all the time !

yes its a bit of a trap that one, many of these gauges are pretty useless. At least some manufacturers are ditching them completely and just fitting a light that glows either blue or red, which for most people is far more sensible. On some if the engine gets too hot the ECU shuts it down automatically, which is an even better idea.
