I am considering getting a motorbike (400cc LAMS), on my learners atm and was interested to know a ballpark on insurance e.g if it was going to be thousands and weather the whole getting a bike is feasible. Also what would the rego get for a 400cc! BTW im 20 years old. I did try insurance but they are closed (Sat) so this is just a yes its cheap or no get a loan haha. Thanks for you help.

Or Golightly in Chch. Best to deal with a specialist bike insurer as listed by previous (and myself) posters as they understand things like oil/diesel related offs etc where a generic "home" type insurer may start to squirm and refuse to pay.

Kiwibiker without a doubt. Shouldn't be too expensive either. When I was on my L's, it was about $270 p/a for a $2k bike for full insurance.
