I have followed this thread for several weeks and it is strange that the ramblings toward the end are so different in text, grammar and meaning than the original emails. Almost as if a different person has taken over the script. The whole structure is completely different ie. the use of slang in the end rants such as "ya" and using "high" instead of "Hi" . The first emails have been so painstakingly written to try to appear to be somewhat intelligent, yet the last ones are obviously penned by someone with below intelligence and they dont care who recognises it.

Jekyll and Hyde!

LOL, yes or 2 people playing silly buggers.

Doubt even any language google translate has will decipher this diatribe into understandable english.

My god.What a nutjob indeed!

cpnnz, Feb 4, 6:29pm
Try cut & paste some of it into google translate, change to say, Spanish, then back to English. It's easier to read!

Communication is all about an ability to give and receive information that can be understood between both parties.
Someone who goes out of their way to use words and phrases that are not in common use, run the risk of being misunderstood. The choice of such language suggests not a desire to communicate, but a desire to baffle, confuse and intimidate.
I just hope he continues this charade in front of the adjudicator.
They won't be amused or intimidated.

As they say in Criminal Minds - the UnSub is devolving.

sjm17, Feb 5, 1:18pm
I would also visit the police again, bringing my wife and kids (though don't let the kids overhear . just let the police see them) and stress to them that you are concerned for your safety.Keep on at them.If you seem reasonably unconcerned, THEY won't be concerned. The police are more likely to help you if you seem worried about the safety of your family.

cowboy110, Feb 5, 4:50pm
I don't want to re read 240 posts so can someone direct me to the post where the OPclaims that he or his family has been threatened by this nut job!.I realise that he is concerned about the hearing but don't recall reading anything about threats towards his family.

matthew111, Feb 5, 5:01pm
its not your problem.do nothing, do not reply to any contact and let him try to take you to court if he wants to bother. Document everything just in case.

sjm17, Feb 6, 2:41pm
In his loooooooong verbose rambles, I believe that he made references to OP's family (with no context requiring it) and also spoke of meat and asked OP if he liked hamburger.
Sounds innocuous unless you read it in context of the rambles.
His writings also make it clear that he's completely unhinged. And the police have told OP that he is "known to them".

1roade, Feb 11, 9:13am

tigra, Feb 11, 9:19am

cowboy110, Feb 11, 10:17am

alfa13, Feb 13, 11:21am
13th - hope it went well :)

nzkiwi69, Feb 13, 12:45pm
I have had the hearing and can now let you know how it went.

Firstly I had a positive outcome and I thank all of you for your advice and support.

It was an interesting experience suffice to say that the man behind the letters sounded nothing like he wrote. Almost as if someone wrote for him, however he may write better than he speaks.

It lasted a full 2 hrs and 30 mins.

It simply boiled down that he was unable to prove that there had been rust to the extent that could have failed the warrant I had at time of sale.

As well as a fact I didn't know. If he had had the car fully inspected in Dunedin shortly after purchase and found it to be other than advertised he would also have had a case. However having driven the car for a period is deemed as having accepted the cars condition.

At the end of the period he argued with the referee for an extend period over various things as it began to appear the decision was going to go against him.

At this point it was asked if there was any thing either of us could do to perhaps bring about a resolution.

I said to the chap that I understand his issues and would be unhappy with the situation that he finds himself in. I genuinely did sympathise with his position, just not the abundance of emails which this forum as seen but a snippet.

I offered to pay half of the estimate for the rust repairs. I offered $750. He ummed and ahhed and eventually said no as this could go to the district court perhaps. The referee said that I had made a very fair offer and did he have a counter. Bearing in mind his claim was for the car, transport, interest and court costs.

After a period he said could I pay for all the rust repairs. I replied that if I had found this issue when I warranted the car I would have certainly paid the full amount, but that due to the fact that some of this rust would have occurred in his time of ownership that I would only be prepared to pay half.

A bit more discussion was had then he came out with how about $1000.

I said I would be happy to pay $500 now and $500 in four months after not receiving any emails from him. The referee stepped in and said I can gaurantee that if you pay $1000 within settlement 7 days, this will be full and final payment. To which i agreed.

So that's it. Final. It is all over.

I have taken on board a lot of your advice and you can be commended for providing me with it. I now have some experience that I can pass on to someone else who may find themselves in such a situation.

This has been such a bizarre episode and I would love to be able to share more of some of these emails I have received. Very intimidatory in the same grandiose style.

Perhaps a few years down the track when the dust has finally settled as there was so much more to this.

So I am signing off for the last time.I have copied this thread and will do so again when it has gone quiet. Feel free to leave your regards and thanks so much for having my back.

Just another average kiwi guy
Phil

tigra, Feb 13, 12:51pm
As predicted by most a favourable result and you made a very generous offer in the circumstances which considering the stress you were put to I wouldnt have myself. But its done and life's experience is the winner.

mopsy3, Feb 13, 12:53pm
Well done Phil. You handled yourself with integrity and dignity. Big ups to you.

alfa13, Feb 13, 12:55pm
He is very lucky you are a decent kiwi guy, good things will come your way! Most of us wouldn't have given him a cent I am sure.

dr.doolittle, Feb 13, 1:07pm
I'm glad you're happy with thatnzkiwi69& I sincerely hope thats the last you hear from the nut job.
To be honest I'm a little disappointed you paid him anything and I still think this is possibly the best post in the thread.

rpvr, Feb 13, 1:41pm
That's for sure, I would have been inclined to let him take it to court and get a similar outcome. But then there's the time involved and always that niggling doubt, so I guess it is worth it to see the back of him.
