How big is the dog! Are you thinking station wagon or SUV type vehicle for the extra height! Is fuel economy a big factor in choice! And most important, what is the budget!

Heck you really have a HUGE range of choice. The only thing I would say is dont rule out 7 seaters.some are brilliant as big station wagons -like the nissan presage for example
toyota corona type for 20 k there s a awful long list of vehicles I d settle for a used 96 ish nissan mistral diesel high seating up to 7 seats plenty room for 4 ppl and a dog and relatively cheap at around 4k to 7 k

You get what you pay for, or maybe you dont get what you dont pay for would be a better way to put it.

We had twins, there for double buggy etc,we got a AU2 falcon station wagon 8 years ago, its on LPG so with a rock gas car gets 700km easy for $100. heaps of room cheap to run cheap parts etc, wouldn"t be with out it. pick one up for $3000 to $5000 grand.

VW Touran, Small exterior, big interior, safe, well equipped, well thought out, high decent sized seats for long legs, high roof, brilliant engines and the absolutely brilliant DSG transmissions. 7 seats but last two fold properly away into the floor giving you a big wagon type rear space. Absolutely blows the Toyota and similar offerings out of the water. You have to drive one and compare the spec to appreciate how good they are.
