Speeding ticket - no radar.

Yes in this case it has nothing to do with speedo accuracy, but I do know they can use them in a court of law as evidence. But I agree its use as to be done right to get idea of there speed.

They are generally used while following behind at a fixed distance, sure you wront get the exact speed but you get a dam good figure to know one is speeding. Sure it will not be the nearest .1km/hr, but enough to tell you they are speeding.

mark.52, Dec 29, 6:30pm
The only way they can "clock" your speed, if they are travelling in the opposite direction, is by using radar, or by similar electronic means.

They can "clock" your speed, if following, in the same direction. There is a list of provisos for this procedure to be used. The cop speedo is considered accurate enough to do this.if the provisos have been met.

Defend it.

morrisman1 seems to have precisely the right idea.

While there no doubt are bad apples within the police, I'm sorry but I disagree with your attitude toward them. There certainly appears to be a mistake made with the information given in this instance, the rules have been set with the intention of keeping you and my family alive while on the road, they are so simple that even the most moronic amongst us can understand it, all the police have to do is enforce it. Yes I will happily admit they get it wrong, but take them totally away off our roads, all we will have is anachy and many more grieving families.
OP write in an contest that ticket, Morrisman had some very good advice above.

Hehe!

chebry, Dec 29, 7:28pm
Have you seen a police car dude! they are fitted with GPS and can accurately clock a cars speed while following Grow a brain first before you post

bashfulbro, Dec 29, 8:11pm
If he was coming towards you, and had no radar, there is no way he can know your speed, so he is guessing, write to your MP.

bmwnz, Dec 29, 8:18pm
I got a ticket for failing to comply with a yellow traffic light. I saw the cop at the time and carefully watched the light stay yellow all the way through. The cop said pretty much the same thing:
It turned red as you entered the intersection.
Bollox. It was yellow all through etc
We'll just have to agree to disagree - here's a ticket.

I wasn't pissed at the ticket, that's just road taxes to me, but I was very annoyed at the cop (who looked about 15) just bare-faced lying to me.

cuda.340, Dec 29, 9:16pm
no officer, i wasn't txtn n driving, i was posting on Facebook.
oh. thats alright then, on your way.
:)

splinter67, Dec 29, 9:21pm
Where you in the car or is this just hearsay! Im sure weve all told our partners no dear I wasnt speeding the cop was just being a prick

kjmc, Dec 29, 10:42pm
you may have been speeding, but the speed may not have been "locked" on the device, therefore he can not show you. There is no legal requirement for speed to be locked on, relies on honesty.

mrsscubasteve, Dec 29, 11:23pm
Myself and my brother were with my partner. I know that car inside out and could drive it blindfolded knowing what speed its doing. we all saw the speedo.

We will be disputing it. I appreciate the advice of posters, truly its given me some good headway as to how to go about it.

meathead_timaru, Dec 29, 11:33pm
Maybe you should take your own advice as you clearly have no idea what is even being discussed in the post you quoted.

skull, Dec 29, 11:49pm
To grow a brain you need to start with a viable seed, completely absent in this case.

elect70, Dec 30, 12:25am
Cop is not obliged to show you proof .He can siton the side of the road &do a fairly good estimate of your speed .I have a letter from cheif plod to say they do this in training &arevery close toaccurateblah blah blah-offence stands

the-lada-dude, Dec 30, 12:52am
we all notice that you and splinter brain67 have absolutely nothing to add to these posts but total sh. , nothing wrong with a bit of idol banter, but you and your mate have really been pushing the wrong buttons lately

splinter67, Dec 30, 12:57am
Tit for tat lada clown you started it not me btw if ya want to stop ya lada wheel spinning lift ya right foot or is that too easy

poppajn, Dec 30, 12:59am
Have you allowed for the margin of error in your speedo!

jmma, Dec 30, 1:00am
So who is going to stick their hand up and say "I will stop this tit for tat"
You guys are better than that.

neo_psy, Dec 30, 1:07am
About 10 years ago now, I got pinged for running a yellow light - saw it change yellow, and glanced in my mirror where an old Mirage was riding my butt. Decided it was better to run the yellow than to have a Mirage in my boot.

Cop acknowledged the tail-gater (didn't do anything, of course) but basicially said "tough, you should have stopped and let him hit you" as she wrote the ticket out. He must have seen the cop, cos he stopped (over the line, but still stopped)

Good times.

martin11, Dec 30, 1:14am
You should have not entered the intersection on a yellow if you had time to stop safely which by what you state you did have time to stop .

the-lada-dude, Dec 30, 1:18am
I agree with MM. but really, you have to draw the publics attention to this case, mrs aqualung has to go out on a limb, and expose the police and govt for what they are . corrupt !.I've got some good ideas on how to get the populations attention, bit radical. but should work !

sirdoug, Dec 30, 2:14am
Morrisman has it right.you have 28 days to pay the ticket then the reminder.( another 28 days) Let some time go by but not till the reminder date runs out. Before that happens advise that you will be defending this and ask for a discovery ( that is all the information that the Road Nazi has on the case) That has to be given to you and you do not have to do anything until the court date.Chances are that they will dismiss this. The Road Nazi may be unavailable due tobeing on holiday, sick leave, tried up on something more important or left the force or they realise that there is really no case to answer. If they intend to persue this the court date will be months away. I am not anti police as someone said earlier we need them or all hell would break lose. Its just that there is only one law in this country and apliesto all of us so continuewith this as he or she is trying to getthe required quota for the day.Unfortunately when one believes they are right this just costs the taxpayer thousands more that the $80-00 ticket but whats the alternative.Good luck.

gedo1, Dec 30, 6:38am
There is something basically wrong or missing in the OP's post.I read that the officer was approaching from the front. and that he pulled them up. First question must be did he stop ahead of them as they approached and get out of his vehicle and make them stop to speak to them!Or did he turn around behind and follow then signal them to stop from behind!Latter seems more logical and likely., and thus he could and would get a comparative reading using the calibrated speedo in his vehicle.

Whos honesty,

Welcome to the absurd world of road Policing where its all about maintaining the 100M a year in infringement income. Trouble is now that most of the real speeders are gone with their expensive tickets they have to fund a good portion of that 100M by catching people out on technicalities and by using underhanded means.

This will continue until people stand up and demand road Policing that is about SAFETY not smoke and mirrors nonsense.

Sadly though there are far too many non thinking enablers who just fall over themselves to regurgitate the latest PR nonsense and blindly defend what the Police and Government do, no matter how stupid.

Sadly, like the lobster in the pot they won't realise what they have helped create until its too late.
