Sadly another cyclist has been killed

Are you positive!

I wouldn't be inclined to take your word for anything.

P!ss of and share the footpath with pedestrians if you're so worried myself or a fellow motorist may squash you flat.

Oh no wait.here's a good one

You could always complain on Trade Me!

Edit: Spell check.

funkydunky, Mar 19, 1:45pm
I wonder how you would really react if you killed a cyclist! Would you be full of self righteous puffery on the message boards or would you be more circumspect and perhaps work out in your mind if you could undo what had happened! Just saying . . .

oliver6, Mar 19, 1:50pm
Unfortunately I live in a rural area so there are no footpaths, so I do share the roads with motorists, of whom about 1 in 30 are incompetent to some degree.

lazeeboy, Mar 19, 1:59pm
Your argument is very inconsistent. You should give it a rest.

Being totally honest here I would say every second group of cyclists I see around here do not abide by the rules.

oliver6, Mar 19, 2:07pm
I haven't done a detailed survey, I just make up the numbers depending on what i experience when I cycle 3 times per week. I realize that many cyclists are idiots, however they don't generally run over motorists and kill them.

lazeeboy, Mar 19, 2:49pm
Unfortunately accidents do happen. But hey, according to you.one accident and ye shall never drive again!

I am 100% positive it was not intentional.

I also realize that many motorists are idiots, however they also, do not "generally" run over cyclists and kill them.

besides being quite a rude person, you also dont seem to grasp sarcasm when its given to you

everyone knows the amount of trucking we have to put up with is a problem in modern day New Zealand

lazeeboy, Mar 19, 3:43pm
I grasp the concept of sarcasm perfectly.

I simply chose to ignore, for it is THE lowest form of wit.

Anything else you'd like to add!

You berate people for quoting what was reported in the news but then you put "I am 100% positive it was not intentional." out of your mind only.

Some motorvehicle drivers are out to intentionally knock cyclists off. I have experienced this and know others who have.

wind.turbine, Mar 19, 5:19pm
who cares!
They pay there RUC they are allowed to be there.
I could say the same about the amount of cars on our roads!
I say if you pay for the use of the road and follow the rules then fine not a problem but cyclists don't have to pay a cent and they don't follow the rules at all!
They say to give 1.5M room when passing but remember a most trucks are 2M wide at least and to give that much room, they will be right on the center line of not over it!
Now try doing that while going around a blind corner.

wind.turbine, Mar 19, 5:20pm
The amount of cyclists that I see lately sitting right on the left hand line when there is a huge shoulder to be on is getting to be a joke!

brummoi, Mar 19, 5:34pm
clearly, you shouldn't even attempt that going round a blind corner. You sound like a very dangerous driver

puddleduck00, Mar 19, 5:49pm
I'm not speaking for every scenario here, but if I do that it's because the shoulder is full of glass or potholes or there are parked cars. I do not swerve in an out of parked cars, you keep a predictable straight line when you're cycling otherwise drivers cannot anticipate your movements.

But yeah I agree there are dickhead cyclists out there. Just as there are dickhead drivers, whom I encounter (in my car) on a daily basis.

wind.turbine, Mar 19, 6:01pm
you are driving around a blind narrow corner at 70KMh when you see a cyclist no more than 10M ahead of you.
what are you going to do.
and I'm not talking about a small car that you can stop or swerve with ease I am talking about a large truck.

oliver6, Mar 19, 6:03pm
Perhaps you could slow down until you at a place where there is sufficient clear visibility to pass.

brummoi, Mar 19, 6:10pm
what if it's not a cyclist but a broken down car, or a child, or a horse, or a anything! The basic rule is that you must be able to stop safely within the space you can observe. If you can't grasp this, you shouldn't be allowed to drive anything

wind.turbine, Mar 19, 6:14pm
You really did not get my point did you!

kingfisher21, Mar 19, 6:17pm
He won't, and he is incapable, the lycra has cut off his blood supply.

oliver6, Mar 19, 6:17pm
I did get the point. You are saying that some drivers drive in a manner which means that they cannot take evasive action if a hazard appears on the road ahead. Lack of driving competence.

oliver6, Mar 19, 6:20pm
My lycra is a bit loose actually, as I have lost weight because of the cycling.

puddleduck00, Mar 19, 6:27pm
I'm a cyclist and I get your point. Some places are just too dangerous to cycle. Doesn't matter whose fault it is, if you get hit by a truck you're toast. I'm quite certain drivers don't intentionally hug corners with the hope of taking out a cyclist. Both parties need to be vigilant.

wind.turbine, Mar 19, 6:35pm
And That there Is the problem.
Some People put them selves in direct danger by cycling in some areas.
If they even get a scratch you never hair the end of it!
no offense to you if you are a good cyclist with a brain

brummoi, Mar 19, 7:05pm
so, given that cyclists (and children and broken down cars and horses) are on the roads despite what you want, and roads have bends in them, do you not think barrelling round blind corners at 70k in a truck is reckless and stupid!

oliver6, Mar 19, 7:08pm
I agree. There some roads cyclists should avoid, especially at certain times of the day, for their own safety. However, if they do cycle on those roads, traffic should always be able to avoid them if they are cycling in a safe manner.

philltauranga, Mar 19, 7:12pm
Just curious where this info came from! I didnt see any news reports, so do you have a link!
If this is the case maby the truck WAS giving her sufficent space but she rode into/ vacumed, sucked into his truck as he went by!
Feel for her family of course, but if he was unable to avoid her if she "lost control" imiagine how he feels- every one blaming him, he just went to work and did his job properly- she makes a mistake and HE has to live with it too you know, feel for him also if thats the case.
Would you blame a train driver for hitting a car on a crossing!
You dont need a degree in physics to know that 40 ton doing 90kmhr wont stop like your car does, and at 4m high with multiple piviot points between the truck and trailer, swerving at high speed would end in disaster.
