Did you price the part from a VW agent Prawn? I've personally caught a well known aftermarket NZ car parts retailer selling genuine GM bits for Opel product still in the genuine packaging would you please for a higher price than it was from Holden. As said above there is a middleman, or two, or three, having a laugh somewhere.

To be honest mate , I cant remember now. quite a few years ago.
I do agree though. Got to really shop around these days and try all avenues. Often the part is available at a reasonable price if you keep looking.

I'm sure it's because the NZ retailers of these vehicles seem to market them as some luxury high end brands. Except they are just the Corolla and Civics of Europe. My Clio RS had a receipt from the previous owner, the parts prices from the dealer were eye watering and were just as bad when I enquired at the dealer for a simple oil and air filter.
