In the age of texting, people are far less likely to follow through as it is all so impersonal. Having said that, I have done deals by txt from start to finish without ever speaking to the purchaser. It's a different world now, and to the dealers that say "txt's will not be answered" on their ad, I think that is a big mistake. In fact I would say 75% of all my sales start by a txt enquiry.

toby-haven't looked at your stock recently but would it be fair to say the bulk of your sales are in the 3-5 range? Ive noticed that people buying in that area do seem more often to enquire via text or textified e mails.

A couple of years ago I asked TradeMe if I could accept an offer before the car auction closed. They said that the rules are inconsistent and of course I could as long as I withdrew the auction and was up front about what it sold for. From memory, the auction withdraw page promises grave consequences if you make a habit of using it, except where an upfront fee is paid, such as motor vehicles.

Again I go back to original point. Trade Me is an advertising medium Nothing more and nothing less. In essence they facilitate thousands of individual auctions. The terms and conditions are set by the person who is advertising the item for sale. Should they state anything different they then would have to accept responsibility for the auction.--which clearly and emphatically they are not/do not.

Toby--if that was the case then why is it POSSIBLE to withdraw a TM auction? Why do they ask you the question.-did it sell or not?

its an 11yr old car anyway, I wouldn't bother with anything over 3yrs old and mileage over 40,000ks

I agree with the original poster.
I saw a vehicle auction where he stated it was advertised else where so "had the right to withdraw" (cant find those rights in TM TOU).
I put a message on stating I would bid but "reserve the right to not go through with sale if I wasnt happy with it when I went to pick it up"
Suddenly the seller thinks this is unfair - gee what a surprise.
These types of sellers are just plain dicks
