Has anyone used these ,are they any good or are you likely to damage your car or yourself Just wondering .

Thought you needed all of the test gear to find if the re is a leak in the system ?

I'd like to know where to get them, there is a kit available in the USA, EZChill is the name.

Must be R12 still around, refrigeration joints must pull it out of old items and store in a bottle, car wreckers maybe.

elect70, Mar 7, 4:25am
^^ supposed to take it to dealers2b destroyed now it is illegal to put it in to anything & old R12 out of fridges is crap & there is a drop in replacement for R12

Don't, just don't.

Have a look at #854375185 I,m a wee bit wary myself !

When did manfrs start putting r13 in auto a/c systems

rbd, Mar 7, 7:16am
It isn't illegal to put R12 in a car. It's illegal to import.

Pre 1993 or so cars use R12 and often perform better on it than the alternatives. If the car doesn't leak then it's handy having a jug of it in the garage for rebuilds etc ;-)

But that said you need gauges and a vacuum pump and the cost of those generally exceeds the cost of paying for R134a retrofit. The problem in NZ is the crazy cost of AC specialists who rip you off big time.

kingfisher21, Mar 8, 4:44am
They are a ripoff, the kit I posted in the youtube link converts a R12 system to R13a easily, and they do work.

mantagsi, Mar 8, 4:45am
r134a is use as an aerosol / airgun propellant in nz so debatable whether you would be in trouble if you can't be bothered fixing your ac system properly, and just want to bang gas in can after can. Those kits are encouraging a crap mentality regarding refrigeration systems; last thing we need is a comtinuation of people not addressing leaks for the major environmental hazard they are. Its not relevant but I am still amazed that my 1993 maxima has an untouched r12 ac system still working perfectly with what appears to be a full charge. Never been touched according to PO

you better dont put compressed air in to the ac system or you will have a explosion or fire.
also them kit on here might be ok gas or fake gas plus you dont do any ac servicing unless you did sleep with your manifold gagues first as you need to need to be able to read them better then your wive.
you always connect both the high and the low side.

monsieurl, Mar 8, 7:26am
I have used these guys recharge kit before to recharge my AC, worked perfectly and I will use them again if i ever need to top it up.

Those daily deal websites often have great deals on AC regassing. $30 is the cheapest I've seen (R134a).

intrade, Mar 8, 11:01pm
aircon dont need regassing whatch the hvac video i posted a link to.
refreigerant dont evaporates if it needs regassing you have leek

the most common leak in a car a/c system is the front seal behind the drive pulley. generally if you leave your a/c on all the time you'll be less likely to experiance a leak. if you leave it off for extended periods of time, the seal will develop a slow pinhole type leak. there is a good possibility that if you just regas & use the a/c regularly the leak will seal back up & your a/c will last for quite some time. BUT this is not always the case. it's a gamble i feel is worth the money. i regas quite a few systems over the summer, hardly anyone comes back & those that do get referred to the big $ companies that will take your car for days & charge you a kings ransom.

Mines still on r12 i suppose since its 1992. Still works great, but if it ever needed gas i would be hunting hi and low for r12, i would get it even if its out of an old vehicle. Ya can always find what you want if you try hard enough. Stuff that other gas
