anyone know the best place to place an ad for wanting to buy a car? don't really want to pay for an ad like in the newspaper, but I want to be pretty specific on the type and condition of the car and want to cover a area from Christchurch to Dunedin

Nobody does that. There is no facility for that. They all look on trade me for a car that meets their criteria and then pick up the phone to seek further clarification.

Can't think how to do that. Best is save a search here for what your after and check the daily email you get. If it's something special is there a club for them worth asking around in? Why don't you start new thread here stating exactly what it is just in case someone has one and is browsing around.

Yes, in my opinion, Trade-me is the main place to check for almost any second hand item.
Since the public registrations are closed, you must have an invite from a current member to be able to register and post in this thread.
