Ballpark cost for replacement of auto transmission

mrs_murphy, Nov 15, 2:44pm
Got a 2001 ford automatic that likely needs a new transmission. Any idea on a vague cost? Would ring around a few places but they're all closed today and I'm kinda impatient. Just looking for a bottom dollar/top dollar rough idea. Cheers

What model Ford? Focus, Falcon, Mondeo etc.

$100.00 from Pick a Part open 7days. Although they may only have them for purple and yellow Fords.

A very rough guess 2.5g-3.5g for a reco

for an escape my guess would be around the 4k mark

2500 is for my 95 corolla so i am with 4k also and 2,5 is if i bring the gearbox in to there shop still thinking what to do , you want to be sure first it is the actuarl gearbox poster 1 as my one has only mechanicals no electronic often electronic component or wiring are the problem including tsb flash updates to fix some issues on newer automatics

Ford Escape transmissions are well known for being weak and prone to failing, so will need more a reflash to fix.

I'd certainly be thinking 4.5k drive in drive out for a rebuild and a bit over half that for a used one but who has told you it needs replacing? They have a number of common faults, some of which can be repaired without removing it, replacement isn't the easiest of jobs on those. Ford and/or Mazda agent or preferably an auto specialist is where the most accurate costings are going to come from given no information about what its doing or not doing has been given. Unless you've cooked it or its split a trans cooler, doing a repair on the one you have might be the preferable option.

Find yourself a 2nd hand one on TM then factor in at least 7 hours labour 2 filters and fluid for 2 changes!

I'd be looking for a 2nd hand auto box intrade as there is a high chance of finding a good used Toyota auto.
Heck there's plenty of them out there.

My question is,why would he want a Toyota box when he has a ford?
