whats the average price for a car to the scrappas? or wreckers? I'd immagine theres 1000KG of metal in the car. anyone know the general prices?

Recently got rid of 2.2 tonne of scrap ( including 1 complete car and the body of another) with a load of steel. $198.00 from Metal man. Takinini.

Perfect storm- not only are scrap metal prices down at present (as the appetite for scrap cools in China) but the recycling industry here has almost reached a peak in the ability to process cars- there are simply not the facilities available to be able to pay a premium for older cars for basic component recovery then shredding. And that means the wreckers aren't paying what they used to, either.

Should also be noted that they will not be using much scrap steel in nz shortly with the sims pacific steel mill closing this year in auckland. It will all be exported, and we are a looooong way from asia.
