Look Ill simplify matters a bit.
The ONLY difference from an automotive point of view between a Jap motorist and a kiwi motorist is the shape of their eyes.
So you will get the guy that drives his Mclaren to work as a daily driver.
The lady with her 1972 Toyota corolla that she has had from new.
The sports car nut that has a fleet of Nissan skyline turbo manuals.
And the people that change their car after 3 years.
Yes shaken is expensive. and if your car is an appliance it does make sense to change. Not only because of the shaken but also factory warranty runs out etc.
Its really a numbers game -percentage wise I'd say the Jap fleet is younger than ours by a few years. But numbers wise there more old cars there than here.

IMHO OP not worth it for one vehicle - you need to bring 10 to 20 vehicles to make it worth it. Be patient and you will pick up a bargain here.
