I'm trying to swap out a worn interior dome light assembly for a replacement one I've bought off here.
Before I took the original assembly out, it worked fine in terms of the switch and bulb. (i.e. it did what it's supposed to do when you flicked the switch between 'Door' . 'On' and 'Off'. but now I've put the replacement assembly in and it only works for 'Door' / 'Off'. and I get no light when all the doors are closed and I set the switch to 'On' manually. Just to add to the confusion, I put the original back in and now it's acting in exactly the same way as the replacement.
I admit I'm no DIY genius. but surely this is an easy fix. or is it not?
What am I missing? Something obvious? Any ideas?
Cheers heaps!

interior lights commonly ground through the screws holding it onto the roof. which i guess is the problem somehow.
