Is there somewhere that people advertise their private campervans for hire. Have just discovered I need to hire a small campervan at Queenstown -- two berth fine -- roughly December 28-Jan 4 next. The hire companies are booked solid, so I wonder if there is a place where private owners hang out that I could make enquiries.
To rent our motorhomes we have to have special insurance, vetted by the police and a whole lot of other bureaucracy so too difficult. We exchange our motorhome for similar overseas but no money changing hands.

We have friends coming from Holland. We are going to 'sell' ours to them.
You will be OK as long as they do not have an accident that requires police presence and / or insurance companies, best of luck!

Be very careful how you do it if you can find someone. The fine for operating without a Rental Licence (Company or individual) is up to $10,000 and the vehicle can be impounded for up to 90 days regardless of who owns it. Insurance is also a difficult one.

There will be a monetary consideration and a receipt provided, They will be registered as the owners of the vehicle, and insurance and repairs will be theirs to arrange. They will be here for 3 months, so the mucking about will be worth while.

Dare say if they pay the folk hiring out the camper in Euro's they will be sweet with the Euro not being legal tender in NZ ?
