Is this becoming a norm !

I have never seen this before. I am more used to ~$80/hr inc.

smoothgroove, Jan 21, 11:36pm

im_andrew, Jan 21, 11:43pm

MINE CHARGES $50 P/H

aragorn2003, Jan 22, 2:28am
2 mechanics working on your car maybe!

franc123, Jan 22, 8:04am
I would expect that would be in the ballpark for the upmarket franchise service centres up there, as for the local greasery surely not! What sort of outfit is in question here!

smoothgroove, Jan 22, 12:05pm
It's a Euro outfit. But I have used other "specialised" Euro garages before, and they have not charged that much.

321mat, Jan 22, 2:11pm
Where is this happening! - sounds like subaru.
I'd bet you anything this is a/in the North Island, b/ South of Taupo, and c/ North of Wellington

Like to name the garage please as I would hate to go there by mistake.

anr, Jan 22, 10:13pm
Archibalds in chch (audi service part) somewhere around 112+ gst.

stevo2, Jan 23, 12:41am
$68.68 + gst here.

true

lookoutas, Jan 23, 12:55am
I don't see why someone has to charge more just to work on a piece of Euro crap! The extra hours it takes to do a similar job will cost more anyway.
If a techo is paid the $30 they are worth, then the charge out should be $90. End of story.

lookoutas, Jan 23, 12:58am
The job should be worked out at what the expert would take. What time the apprentice takes is part of the training.

anr, Jan 23, 1:28am
Doesn't need to be an apprentice. Just because it's a mechanic doesn't necessarily mean they are going to fix it faster if they don't know much about them or have the necessary diagnostic equipment. I took my audi to the local garage which i have used for years. Labour diagnstics etc $295 later i have it at Archibalds. One scan later exact problem found, warranty sorted and booked in parts on order. Could have saved $295 by just going there originally. There are cheaper euro places around but their service is outstanding. As for euro crap, theres just as much Jap or american or australian or korean or chinese crap out there. It just depends on what you like as to your position on that.

Do most people not check what the rate is before they book their car in!

stevo2, Jan 23, 6:04am
Have never checked yet. Just find a tradesman I trust and "book it in". I have a reasonable idea of what most jobs cost and have been happy with all work done except for a small exhaust job from Midas Tauranga. Needless to say I dont go back there.

Sorry anr - got that a bit wrong. They're good cars until they need fixing. That's when they turn to crap, and need to be worked on by specialised techs. And the parts costs are usually horrendous.

I really wanted an Audi, but everyone I spoke to told me they're for people who can afford to buy new ones, and then hand them on to suckers like me before they start stuffing up.

The Japs have got everyone stuffed, and just watch out for those Koreans. "Too late."
