THAT was while I was in the U.K. mid-late '60's.

Carnaby St, miniskirts, .

Sales/service repping, I was covering 1000miles per week, PLUS 40 hours work, all in Austin A40 (series II, it had the longer, uprated rear springs!). We then got Escorts - 1100cc for the plebs, 1300cc for the supervisors, further up the foodchain got Mk11 Cortina1300 two-doors, then four-doors, the department mgrs got 1600cc cars, door # depended on the pecking-order!

BTW, the 1100 Scrote got 24MPG, the 1300 got 27MPG.

Who said Fords were economical!

God I miss that crap - and the absurdities which came from it.
One job I had in Aus, we got a fixed sum of $ to buy a car - up to us what we bought.IIRC it was $A18k (mid - late '80s).That was the deal.
Normally that got you a reasonably specced 6 cyl falcon or commodore. My workmate's car was due for replacement a few months after the '87 crash. He was Italian, pretty good at doing deals, and car dealers were absolutely bleeding. He goes out to take delivery of his $18k commodore and arrives back in the office car park.It had nice mags, oops and a sun roof, oops leather seats, and oops that doesn't sound like a 6.Not quite a calais - on exterior trim options, but probably nicer. Our manager spat the dummy and insisted on an immediate car swap.My workmate and I both left for greener pastures a week later.

Something of that body type was my thoughts exactly. Hence why I recommended the peugeot above. Handles on the road like a small car and drinks fuel like a small car would. But it's a van with double sliding doors and blanked out windows. OP would be mad not to at least take a look.

CX7 between those two.

Yeah those VW caddys are workman's vans. Not what you need.

The Mazda 6 is a better car than the CX7, and again has more cargo space.

+1000 from me here. We have both in the fleet at work.
The 6, handles WAY better, faster, more economical, more space in the back, better view for the kids in the back as the windows are lower.
The CX-7 has.umm better ground clearance.
