Its a manual 2002 Honda Jazz, its quite poxy but thats beside the point.
It has developed a problem that my mechanic could not diagnose/fix.
It jerks sort of on the downhills or any time you back off the fuel and when going slowly as in a car park or pulling into the driveway sort of a bumpy stop/start feel. It would look like a learner driver bunny hopping.
Mechanic has checked all the obvious things and nothing showed up on the diagnostic equipment. It is horrible to drive - any clues or ideas would be much apreciated.

Some cars behave like that if the throttle position sensor isn't adjusted correctly.

cuda.340, Feb 7, 10:14pm
sell now!

janet31, Feb 7, 10:15pm
yes he checked that thanks.

ginga4lyfe, Feb 7, 10:17pm
why not take it to a honda dealership that has a workshop on it, and ask them what there opinion is!

janet31, Feb 7, 10:18pm
Yup will have to I guess lol.

mechnificent, Feb 7, 10:20pm
Next guess would be that the ignition timing was out. cept I doubt that is supposed to be possible on that.

mechnificent, Feb 7, 10:21pm
Or, getting really silly.

You have an out of round wheel or a bent/worn axle.

The third word in the first post.

vtecintegra, Feb 7, 10:44pm
CVT transmission! When was it last serviced!

im_andrew, Feb 7, 10:46pm
Idle air controll valve sticky and slow to open

pandai, Feb 7, 10:49pm
The jerking while going downhill could be a clue, presuming it's above 1500rpm or so, the injectors will be off, so I don't know if the IACV will affect that.If it were something simple like a motor mount, the mechanic would surely have looked at that too (perhaps one of them is vacuum assisted!)

pandai, Feb 7, 11:03pm
I am going to hazard a guess - Faulty EGR valve

Seems those cars are also sensitive to rubbish petrol so try a 95 octane fuel as well

ema1, Feb 7, 11:07pm
I'd be looking at possible damaged/broken engine /trans mounts allowing the engine to move excessively or possibly the driveshafts being defective! Just my 5cents worth Cheers.
Used to be a major problem with BLMC cars in the day I was working on them, engine mounts were two a penny in them and I wouldn't mind $100 for every one I replaced in those cars!
Possible fault with engine EGR system or some quirk in the tune of the engine, Honda Agent would be a good move.I guess they would have a diagnostics plug so the fault codes can be checked out being EFI set up!

janet31, Feb 7, 11:31pm
thanks for that I wondered if that was worth a try.

pandai, Feb 7, 11:32pm
I'd ask the Honda dealer about it first though, they'd probably have fixed a few by now

janet31, Feb 7, 11:50pm
lol, yes but its normal to diagnose yourself before seeing the doctor/specialist :-)

dent, Feb 8, 12:30am
Any chance its a cvt transmission!

icemans1, Feb 8, 12:48am
why buy a honda!

janet31, Feb 8, 12:59am

janet31, Feb 8, 4:11pm
What are these gears you talk of!

daniel83, Feb 8, 4:13pm
Are there 3 pedals! If so, there might be a big stick thing that you have to move as you drive!
