I have a 2004 toyota caldina. The engine light has been coming on intermittently (it's not usually on when you first start driving but after 5-10mins it will come on). Also when the car slows down (when the revs get low) and your foot is on the break the car is very jerky and when it's stopped at traffic lights every few seconds it jerks (doesn't run smooth like it should). Any ideas what the problem could be!
I took the spark plugs out the other day and cleaned them (at this stage the engine light was coming on aswell) as when you started the car it took a few longs turns on the ignition to get it started. Since cleaning them it starts first go. When I pulled out the plugs i noticed that on one of them the gap was smaller than the rest. The car uses the iridium spark plugs which are pretty expensive so I don't want to go and buy a set if it's not what the real problem is.
