V8 SuperTourers sells all first year franchises

The huge interest from existing and potential motorsport teams in the brand new V8 SuperTourer series reached new heights this week with the news that the championship organisers have sold out of Season One franchises and reached their target of 20 cars.

The sixteen cars now in the country will be joined by a further four cars purchased by Kiwi Indycar icon Steve Horne, New Zealand team owner Colin McLennan and former notable New Zealand racer Bill Farmer. The twentieth car has been provisionally sold, subject to confirmation by the team??

Looks all good. Just hope it suffer from the same fate as other tier one racing, ie lack of money seeing lots of competive cars parked in garages.

msigg, Jan 8, 7:20am
trouble is no competion here need to compete with the aussie v8.

Ticket sales are way ahead of predictions and on the basis of recent history, sales at this point are such that the imposed crowd limits will be exceeded, so there is a chance that the gates may be closed early unless you have tickets.

All HD rental units are sold out for the weekend and there is a waiting list, so obviously spectators are keen to support a non MSNZ tier one meeting.

Just reading the website.

Sigh. Wouldn't it have made more sense to have an actual two class race like everyone seems to be demanding! IE, take an ACTUAL FG Falcon or VE2 from a dealer, strip them, mod them and then race them!

With a single motor (albeit 7 litres), this is just FIA grade SuperCars stuff.

Next they'll all have the same chassis, gearbox, diff and brake package and the only thing separating them will be the wing mirrors and boot lid just like the Australian series.

I realise not many people know that V8 SuperCars aren't actually Holdens or Fords and don't know the difference, but wouldn't it have been nice to see the two companies competing against each other properly for a change!

Just sports sedans under a new name.

franko171, Jan 11, 12:19am
two season then same old boring stuff

gadgit3, Jan 11, 12:30am
What you have there is the NZV8 series so if people are demanding it they are looking for it in the wrong places lol

foxdonut, Jan 11, 12:46am
So whats the difference between these and V8SC cars! Other than one generic engine, as opposed to two nearly identical generic engines!

I'm guessing with the limited room for aero packages and around 75 horses less these cars are slower.

Is there any other draw card. At all!

gadgit3, Jan 11, 12:51am
Difference .It's all NZ. not in aus lol

foxdonut, Jan 11, 12:59am
Well, that counts for something. But will be a case of people demanding it, but then not showing up.

A1GP was going to be the greatest thing ever made and I remember these forums going apeshit for it, claiming F1 was shit and this would be "real" racing.

Half a season later no one cared, and all they had to do was turn on a TV, let alone pay for tickets.

gadgit3, Jan 11, 1:09am
Agreeded.
NZV8 been here for many seasons and proven event with surport classes so time will tell if th ST series will stick or not.

elect70, Jan 11, 1:45am
Not pretending to be any make its justa convenient body, can fit any body you like. Must be doing something right asnumber of NZ V8carsonly12 -14&shrinking . Ruapunawasunder 10 .MSNZ had their chance to go withsupertourers but declined thinking it wouldnt catch onbut at this rate NZV8 will die out .Might even have a NZ/ Auschallenge as they are similar performance , bring it on .

gadgit3, Jan 11, 1:58am
I don't think your info is 100% there. The ST chassis was presented to NZV8 and was ment to run off the back this season to iron out any flaws and also run out the current chassis. but the Chassis was grabed and run with by one of the teams to what the ST is now. Currently NZV8 are running the same space frame chassis (but localy made) off the back of this season with intention of going to it next season. Things were rushed and now we have two race series compeating for the same sponsors.

foxdonut, Jan 11, 2:06am
All this power limited, same chassis stuff sucks. Bring back group c.So what if people die, its high risk motor racing not syncronised flower arranging.

gadgit3, Jan 11, 2:10am
Lol fair call

xpfairmont, Jan 11, 2:18am
wouldn't go if you paid me. real motor sport died years ago. RIP

foxdonut, Jan 11, 2:30am
Does anyone else remember when a thousand horsepower and absolutely no mention of fuel economy, crash safety or emissions standards were the norm! Where livery was paid for by people with money! Marlboro, Silk Cut or B&H! When The Green Party or a bunch of panises didn't have a say in how car races were conducted!

This is what it looked like in a slow car:

Which is why classics is booming on the tracks - but as it it is 95% unsponsored, there is no promotional budget and therefore crowds are generally small.
As always, media interest is the single largest factor in getting paying spectators through the gate and the local media don't really care a stuff about any form of motorised sport.
With a bunch of known drivers and Paul Radisich at the helm, they'll get some column inches.
Me!Not really interested in one make backed up by! Yup, more one/two make stuff no doubt.

twink19, Jan 11, 7:01am
we will see at Taupo this week end, was told they are short of entries, maybe because of Hampton Downs next two big week ends
