5 sets in 175,000kms! what are you complaining about! that's perfectly reasonable.

Something seriously wrong with km's on the above posters vehicles.
I put 3mm deep tyres on my Hilux 2 years ago & it's done about 25,000 since then all over NZ & STILL got about 2.5mm tread & mostly road useage.
= (corrected)
Tyres up to 36psi back / 40psi front
Low & Super low profiles NEED higher pressures then std type tyres
New tyres on back

Watch the wear really closely & if it's still bad, then get the back kitted.

It's a very common thing to happen to cars in NZ that we NEED higher tyre pressures then a lot of other countrys.
Nz has course gravel chip roads / very twisty roads & a huge variation in temps (even on the same day)
"4 seasons in one day" takes on a whole new meaning when in NZ.

They said that the tyres were at 38psi

Perhaps also go to a higher profile /slightly narrower tyre.
Maybe for your type of driving, the low profile tyres are simply not suitable.

A 205/55/17 would be ok & give a bit more sidewall flex./cushion
Plus keep your speedo reasonablly correct

I would be running around 40psi myself, but 38psi is good enough. At least it isn't 28-35psi. Perhaps the tyre pressures aren't being checked regularly and they start at 38psi when the new set of tyres are fitted and end up at 28psi by the time the tyres are worn out!
