Im pretty sure it was takapuna, it was small, it was a few years ago(5ish). yeah i should have made a complaint on a couple of occasions. you may have been immature to call names but I took the bait, hook line and sinker. I dont have a prob with cops in general, know a few who are friends/ family. I just have had and know of some bad experiences which has tarnished my outlook on the legal/ justice system. but i believe it is a systematic driven problem.

O.K so I am not going to get into the OP's issues or what should or should not have been done. I am also not suggesting this should be a priority for the Christchurch Police at the moment. However for the record here are some of my experiences with the Police so people may get an insight into what it can be like to get some action.
1. Parents Bed and Breakfast ripped off buy a guy who was driving a car he had stolen 6 months earlier. He stayed every night at a bed and breakfast and so far no one had caught him. My folks realised who he was after they noticed some goods stolen (which were in the roof space so he would have not expected them to notice). The guy rang to say he was returning to stay the night again so my folks contacted their police station to get someone out to catch him.
Response: Due to a number of thefts in the area we are to busy to respond. Same response with the next two Police stations in the area. Its not rocket science people, small town, suddenly a lot of thefts in one day. do you think you might want to come and catch the most likely suspect!
2. Have had a relative die unnecessarily because Police failed to respond properly to a confirmed maritime accident. Sent a car 30km to "have a look" instead of calling the coastguard.
3. Located and stalled a known fraudster who had been commiting fraud of about 80K a month for nearly a year. Located him in other stores 3 times and had staff keep him busy. 3 times the Police failed to show or even respond.
Police had not even bothered to send the cheques for fingerprinting.
4. Witnessed a person ring to report a possible kidnapping and were told, "sorry all units busy" only to see a cop car pull up outside the same building and pick up a santa clause for a school visit.
5. Advised Police of my Stolen property being sold by a pawnshop on Trademe. Police rang my relatives (wrong person from phone book instead of my phone number on file) at 11:30PM on the last day before the auction closed (they had been told a week in advance). Police advised they had not resources to recover my stolen items (worth thousands). Won the auction and picked them up myself. from directly accross the road from a Police Station.
6. Called Police to advise of wandering stock that had damaged my vehicle on a blind corner in a 100km/h zone. Asked for assistance while contacting owner as it was in a very dodgy area. Also advised the stock were improperly enclosed and if I hadn't by fluke been only doing 30km/h it could have been fatal.
The receptionist at the cop shop laughed at me and said "we don't do that sort of thing".
There are more incidents but you get the idea. Its such a shame as so much crime could be very easily solved with just a little bit of organisation and re-prioritisation of our police force.
I won't be responding to people heckling my story. Thats what happened believe me or not I do not care.

I believe you, they are the sort of stories I have heard of. so I am not the only one on here! When we rang in the burglary as the had just driven off we thought they would just put a call out to cars in the area to keepan eye out or head our way. not a big reaction to have given there would have been patrol cars giving out speeding tickets nearby. I can't help but wonder if we should still have seperate police/ traffic cops!

I reckon the problem is easily solved ontwowheels. The Police should have a number of non-sworn tech savy investigators that simply pick up a file, follow it through and finish the job. The vast majority of effective Policing can be done with a Telephone, a Computer and some decent software and co-ordination.
Take the the fruadster and car thief examples in my story. My Mother managed to locate the guy ripping off the Bed and Breakfasts again within 48 hours and that time managed to get cops out to pick him up.
I managed to locate the fraudster that ripped me off within a few days and even recovered my stolen goods.
Both of those instances we just used the phone and email and common sense. The Police had wasted many many more hours on both cases than it took to actually catch the perpetrators simply because they were inefficient.
Every time a decent cop got on the job and nearly had one the next plod at another station would drop the ball and set everyone back to square one. This happened over and over again over months, costing thousands in police time and in stolen goods.
NZ needs to wake up to the situation instead of making excuses. As soon as the problems are exposed the sooner something can be done. People need to stop believing the PR nonsensethat is given out in place of proper policing.
Those "highway patrol" and "police 10/7" PR mock ups are doing the country a lot of damage as they give the masses the idea that the Police are effective and fair. And again, until the actual situation is outed nothing can be done.

Tut. 'Doing the country a lot of damage'. Those tv programs are based on GDB units doing what they do everyday. What they have to do with the unsatisfactory investigation of an inquiry file, I don't know.
thejazzpianoma,

LOL thats funny. Those TV programes are not even rometly similar to typical. They use the best of the best hand picked officers to go with the camera crews and they behave very differently when on camera.

+1 Likewise my respect for the badge is gone as well. Such a shame because respect is such an important tool and its been allowed to be eroded away unchecked and unchallanged.

but if you go 120 while overtaking to make it safer by getting back onto your side of the road quicker. . . . . .

but , people who commit finable offences are a danger to the entire fabric of society
NZ "needs"a culture of fear in order to have safe roads

Absolutly wrong2!
The sad thing is Labour changed our Police force into a win/win for the Government and a Lose/Lose for the people.
Win/Win because the Police become self funding and increasingly more visible making people think that a strong force exists.
Lose/Lose because not only do the people not get any real Policing but they pay several times for the privilidge through increased insurance premiums, great loss to theft/fraud (and of life!). And of course through stupid fines for exceeding speed limits by less than the amount of acceptable error in speedometers.

So normally the police show up, beat up the victim some more and tell everybody to f off!
If you were right jazz, there'd be a bloody national uproar. Not a spattering of TMMBrs complaining.
Of course the service is not up to scratch 100% of the time. The same with ALL organisations. It makes better conversation for you though than complaining about Vodafone, I suppose.
Why don't you go out as an observer one night! Get some perspective.
thejazzpianoma,
Mar 2, 5:27am
No normally they just don't show up at all. Oh and I have had plenty of perspective, the few examples I gave should demonstrate that.
I have had quite the experiance, from multiple calls to various stations when we had the perpetrators located. Time spent organising cheques to be fingerprinted and warrants arranged myself as the Police would not do it themselves. Time talking to other victims of the same easy to catch criminals. Time spent at the funeral of a relative who could be with us today if the Police used some common sense.
You don't locate your own criminals multiple times only to be let down by the Police who won't pick them up even when they are handed to them complete with files and evidence without getting a little perspective.
thejazzpianoma,

BTW, this is not the fault of the individual officers (well not all the time anyway) mostly its the fault of a Government who turned what was a reasonable police force into a bunch of tax collectors cleverly marketed as a Police force.
Its also the fault of all the enablers like the poster above. Just like with an alcoholic you can't fix the problem until you admit there is a problem. Unfortunately people are just to happy to believe the rubbish they are fed by the Police's PR machine.
Any time someone speaks out against them they get shut down by the outspoken and gullible. Sadly while this goes on the rest of us pay financially and even worse sometimes with our lives or those of our family.

jazz, you are full of it. You may have been let down somewhere along the line. But the rest of your waffle, is waffle.

I am Female, and not too tall either, walked down to Police Station, Explained what happened, they took details plus Car rego, they were disgusted with what happened, but are very busy, but at least now they know. Am quite shocked at some of the Negative comments,on herebut we are all different and have different views.so take care and be safe out there.

its not the fault of the officers , their managment is putting this culture onto them
