new cars cheap as right now. My father paid about $45,000 for a new 1986/7 XF Falcon Fairmont. It must have been sitting at Wiri getting ocean sprayed for months before being released to a dealer. So rusty underneath brakelines etc. worst car he ever owned.

Geez. Compared to a house for example that was about $150,000 in todays money. I know of a couple who bought two brand new 1984 Rover SD1 Vandenplas' at about $60,000 each. In 1984 you could have bought a pretty good house in a larger city for $120,000.

Intrade, sorry to hijack but you mention linux chat. I am after a good NZ linux forum for some advice on Freeview HD 7 Day EPG solutions for Mythtv. Hence needing to be NZ based. Any suggestions!

Those Rovers translate to about $168'000 each in todays money. Given the Vandenplas would have been the bees knees its possibly just as much a reflection of todays overpriced housing market as anything to do with the price of the cars.
