i've got a 86 nissan nivara and the clutch seems to be playing up, you can press the clutch pedal down 3/4 way down before any pressure comes on and then in the last quater its nearly impossible to get into gear, would that be something like clutch fluid! or something a bit more serious!

Is it a cable clutch! It might just need adjusting

try topping up clutch master cylinder.the cap to the right of the brake cylinder.looking at the fire-wall,if that doesn't fix it will probably need a new clutch master cylinder and a clutch slave cylinder.not a big job $ cost wise, sounds like you would be better to get a garage to do it.if you attempt yourself heaps of aftermarket outlets sell the cylinders

Cannot remember if its a cable or hydraulic. If it is cable operated then highly likely that the cable is wearing out / needs adjustment. Adjust cable so pedal travel is approx 50mm before take up.

If its hydraulic, before rushing out and buying stuff, examine the clutch slave cylinder (Bolted to the side of gearbox) and ensure it isn't leaking. If it isn't bleed the hydraulics first. Most hydraulic clutch systems are "Auto adjust" but if they get air in the fluid your situation will result.

Re the slave cylinder, it may appear to be ok, but pull back the black rubber boot and see if there is fluid in there. It should be dry.
