Debit cards are even worse since it is MY money that I am out while they investigate, at least with a credit card it doesnt matter since its not my money that is missing.
IMO, they should give you 2 cards, one has just a chip and nothing else on it so you can leave it with untrusted people and they cant clone a strip or write down the numbers.

It cracks me up how many out of towners come into our petrol station and prepay, then go out and put the fuel in, then "OH NO!" They have over filled because they thought we controlled the pumps inside.
I have had a few come in and want to leave items such as credit cards or cell phones so they can fill up.
mrfxit,

LOL yea used to get that with the locals as well.
mrfxit,
Jun 5, 2:55pm
Why. They can't access a debit card without YOUR pin
mrfxit,
Jun 5, 2:56pm
OFFS . then go get a prepay fuel card Plenty of companys doing that.

pin isn't needed to buy online, just the 16 digits and expiry and possibly the CVV off the back. Number can be cloned onto any swipe card and swiped if its an old non chip one, then the signature will be whoevers card it is, and I have only ever seen one retailer (DSE) verify that the swiped number matched the one embossed on the card.
Debit cards are worse since if the teller or an observant person in the queue charges the card online then it is my money missing till the bank sorts it out.
If you are happy to leave your debit card on the counter of a servo in plain sight while refueling then I guess you would be happy to post a scan of the front and back of it online!

So how do you enter a pin when you purchase online! Has in a 4 digit pin

Fark any useless prepay staion I strike in my travels. I always tell them to jam it and go elswhere and only use prepay if I am about to run out. Thier loss not mine

You don't give a S**t about the topic being discussed in this thread but post anyway! What a stupid position.
Go back to pumping gas. It's clearly all you're good for.

I only fill. That's it. I'm not interested in how much fuel it takes. No fill = no sale to me.

LOL, debit cards can't be used without a pin number. Easy fix for the credit card, UPGRADE it to a chip card. Your bank should have already done this anyway or get rid of it if you consider it to be that unsafe.
Also the credit card number is totally useless on a clone card for swiping through eftpos without the info on the strip & if it's a chip card, the new terminals won't accept swiping the card, it HAS to be inserted.

DEBIT CARD . JOHN . not credit card. Of course a debit card has a pin
Are you thinking of "prepaid credit cards "
johnf_456,
Jun 5, 7:12pm
You are not getting it, debit cards work like a credit card so you can make purchases online like you do with a credit card. I.e by putting the numbers on the card into the little box idiot. Debit cards work like a credit card that are linked to you bank account. Heck your.
Do some research on what a debit card is and come back when you know what it is, it works like a credit card but just doesn't use credit it uses your bank account!
Its johnf_456 not john either.

For crying out loud YOU use a pin etc if its used in a shop however if made to purchase stuff online etc you take the numbers off the card like A CREDIT CARD. You do not need your 4 digit pin to make purchases online!
Could at least keep the quotes intact enough so they follow the original intention . (as above)

DEBIT card as in a STANDARD DEBIT card like most ordinary ppl . Nothing to do with "prepaid credit type debit cards"
BEFORE "prepaid credit type debit cards", we only had credit (sign or pin) & debit (pin only)
"prepaid credit type debit cards" only really got going in NZ recently 1st commonly known as "prezzy cards" & then the banks saw they were a good idea.

LMFAO John, would LOVE to see you try & use a std debit card online

Jun 5, 7:24pm
Still not getting it, debit cards work like a credit card (like work where a credit card is accpeted) but they are not a credit card but work like but they drain funds from your bank account. They are not a pressie card, I never said pre paid cards you brought that into it.
johnf_456,
Jun 5, 7:25pm
You can, thats the whole point of them they work like a credit card but drain from your bank account.

Oh dear . sorry johnf_456

https://www.asb.co.nz/personal/credit-cards/visa-debit-card/visa-debit-card Debit cards work like a credit card, you don't understand get back to pumping gas. Quote: Visa Debit lets you shop anywhere you usually would with EFTPOS, PLUS anywhere Visa is accepted. And because it links directly to a nominated ASB account, you use your own money to buy things in New Zealand, online, over the phone or even overseas.
Since you can use a Visa Debit Card to shop everywhere you??

http://credit.about.com/od/creditcardbasics/a/prepaidcard.htm Exactly the same usage & topping up as prezzy cards & your example of a debit card. Theres a few variations depending on the bank concerned but the common 1's are. Credit (personal pin or online or sig) Prepaid credit cards (personal pin & online) which ppl confuse for a debit bank card. Debit bank card (personal pin only)
Lots of names & lots of different conditions of usage for a basic range of cards
