Hey guys,

My mates got a 1.8l 1992 p10 primera he will let go for 1500 it has a busted crankshaft oil seal which is reflected in the price. it is automatic and seems to go well need to know a few things

1. Are there any common probs with these!
2. Are they reliable
3. How hard would that oil leak be to fix
4. apparently they are chain driven! (sr18de is the engine)

1. Front upper suspension arms, engine rattle on start up, seized cams due to lack of servicing (broken timing chains)
2. Depends how they were looked after, but generally they're OK.
3. Depends which crankshaft oil seal you're talking about. Front or rear!
4. So! That's not always an advantage.

Never done one, but shouldn't take more than an hour to fix.

You need to bear in mind they are an old car now, it's unrealistic to expect a trouble free run out of one, it WILL regularly cost to keep going and getting through WOF's etc.Common problems, yes cam and lifter wear due to oil sludging, idle control valves die, governor gears in the trans strip and it won't change gear, luckily its not too hard to repair, suspension wear, fuel pumps will die if filter changes haven't been regular enough, general issues with all body electrics, windows, gauges, door locks, etc, as well as starters and alternators.Best of luck.

As above not much different to any other car of that age.

$1500 not that cheap when it still needs work. Offer him $1200.

Try and find a 2 litre one for similar money.1.8's are gutless piles.
