Hot smell

bmw22, May 10, 1:02am
After doing a fair bit of open road driving on the weekend, partly towing a boat with a subaru lancaster, I have noticed that there is a hot smell coming from the car. Is this a sign that i need to change the oil!

Go have a look and tell us what colour your trans fluid is.

could be the engine oil burning off the exhaust which is comming from the rocker covers.

The trans fluid look normal. Is at the normal level too. There is no oil around that I can see, and the engine oil is at a good level. Has perhaps been a while since i changed the engine oil.

would you recommend an oil change!

A car in need of a service does not make a burning smell.
Your tappet cover seals are leaking oil onto the exhaust. thats what it is.
Get your car serviced and get the service tech to check for the leaks.

I am guessing that if there is a possible leak, it would probably be at the back of the engine wouldn't it!

Probably your trans fluid cooking, does it smell burnt! I had something like that on my Futura.I ran over a plastic bag and it stuck on my exhaust.god that had me worried coz everytime I drove it it smelt like it was on fire.hehe.

I agree totally kaz, also make sure you use a genuine gasket has the aftermarkets one tend to leak later on.
