yeah im wanting 1800/2.0 Duratec/Zetec info

the up-to 2004 engine models

repowering a Ford Ka as a project & want to source the rightmodel/year engine for the project

wrong2, Apr 11, 9:36am
for a 2.0 yeah

but what about in a 950 kg Ka :-)

vtecintegra, Apr 11, 11:22pm
Looked at them late last year. Most of the ones for sale are Jap imports if that matters to you

The lack of 4 wheel drive was their downfall.

Although, having said that, there are "some" 4wd homologation "specials" out there, but I don't know if any ever came to NZ, and if they did, and you were able to get one, how you'd ever go about maintaining the thing with spares that Ford just would not carry.
Or, if you'd even be able to pay the money needed to be paid to buy said parts for such a rare and unusual car.

For a Ford Ka, I would use the 1.6 Zetec-SE (aka Sigma) engine from the Focus - its all alloy so lighter then a 1.8/2.0 Zetec that has iron block, and it uses the same iB5 gearbox as the Ka. It has the exhaust manifold at the rear so you would need to allow for that. The same 1.6 engine is used in the Fiesta but is now called a Duratec.

i didnt realise our Focus came with sigma engines, what year Focus had them !

zetecs got badged as duratecs i know as time went on. production of the engines im after ended in 2004. were all zetecs iron block !

what about blacktop duratecs !

the sigmas were made untill 2002 right !, despite the change of location for the intake & exhaust they should fit right in.

going to a bigger engine, weight is definantly the deciding factor - a high compression 1600 would suit just fine over the OHV Kent - but if i could get an alloy 1800 i still would

any info would be appreciated

Does it make more sense to go and find something like an Audi S3 !
turbo engine, haldex 4 wd, wof, reg and ready to go.

well , nice car but im not a fan

i have just read that the IB5+ gearbox can mate with the alloy Duratec engines from 2004 on, but what model fords came with that gearbox, meaning can i find them here in NZ & will they go into the Ka !

vtecintegra, Apr 12, 11:34am
Basically everything got branded as Duratec: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Duratec_engine#Names_referenceThis makes things somewhat confusing.

wrong2, Apr 13, 4:21am
thanks for the info, i cant edit the thread title but its really about Zetec & Duratec engines

what gearboxes & what models carry them

related to what will suit being put into a Ka - but the links & info are still appreciated - got to get engine bits from somewhere afterall ~

zetec, Apr 13, 8:36am
Zetec SE engine comes in 3 sizes, 1.25, 1.4 and 1.6. The 1.4 and 1.6 were in Focus from the start, only 1.6 version sold here in NZ. It is still the current small engine today and comes in the Fiesta 1.6 (and 1.4 auto) and Focus 1.6 in NZ. It has been upgraded in power over years but basically same motor. The Zetec 1.8 and 2.0 (&1.6 in the old Escort) is a totally different engine with iron block and alloy head. Only all alloy 2.0 is the Mazda derived engine in the Mondeo and Focus since 2001 and 2005 respectively.

rgr got that much off the web over the last week

new mzr engine went into production in 04 , & unlike the zetec engine it wont bolt onto the IB5 gearbox

but apparently ford brazil make an IB5+ gearbox that it will fit onto -from what ive read so far is that it was used in the ST150 Fiesta - but i cant find any info regarding other models

if its the same as the Ka gearbox except for the starter position, i may get away with slotting one into my car & end up being able to have the alloy duratec 2.0

some focus might have had them but im coming up empty finding model info !

zetec, Apr 14, 6:07am
Its hard to get info from Brazil becuase of the language barrier. I think the 1.8/2.0 engines of whatever family use theMTX75 gearbox - has a lift clip on gear lever for engaging reverse. Myself, I would use the 1.6 SE motor, fits the Ka gearbox- final drive ratio would need changing, engine can be modified (check UK sites) and main difference is the inlet and exhaust is reveresed - not insurmountable. In fact the later Ka engine (2003-04)- the sohc rocam has the same inlet/exhaust side as the SE.

wrong2, Oct 29, 3:50pm
thanks for that

the 5th gear in that box is a good step up from 4th. uk ford owners have said the 1.8 & 2.0 zetec work great with that boxes standard ratios

& yeah the rocam reverses the inlet/exhaust just like the sigma & alloy duratec do. exhausts are my speciality so thats no probs. i guess the 00 & later model fiestas have an updates to that engine. are they still coated bores or did they end up fitting sleeves to it !

the box/engine combo im after is seemingly fitted to the ST150
