Provided that Audi didn't need any work and you could get a fresh WOF. It could have been polished up, twenty quality photos taken and resold via classified for a profit if you didn't mind waiting a few weeks.

got any examples of low milage EF/ELs on trademe for $2k!

crzyhrse, Apr 12, 1:14pm
Yep. Lower mileage than that Audi.

skyline_guy_r34, Apr 12, 1:16pm
Not my post you quoted. someone elses. but.

I just paid $2900 for an AU with 196,000kms with new wof and rego. Guess you could say its in the $2k range haha

crzyhrse, Apr 12, 1:16pm
Of course, they don't have that perceived 'exotic prestige' of the Audi, which is what it's really about, right!

phillip.weston, Apr 12, 1:26pm
so 234k and 178k are 'low kms'! I too think that Falcons of that age represent good value for money, if you are looking for a big car. If you need something to do just around town running, then the Falcon can start to be uneconomical to run.

skyline_guy_r34, Apr 12, 1:49pm
Agreed. Getting worse fuel usage around town than i was with my 5.7 ss v8.

phillip.weston, Apr 12, 1:53pm
^^ that is a bit of car for the money but then again for the money similar specced out/age Diamantes go for you could argue that they too are good value for money. The Maxima, while being a nice car, does not really exceed in anything. It's not economical for the size of engine, yet it's not overly powerful. It's not that roomy on the inside, yet it's not small for ease of parking. You couldn't really use it for a tow car in the same way that you could a Falcodore. And let's face it, the styling isn't exactly cutting edge for its age either.

I really can't see a fairly peaky 2.6L V6 being much better around town economy wise than the low down torque 4L IL6.

gunhand, Apr 12, 2:24pm
The price was a $1 reserve the market dictates the value, so someone thought it was worth that.

phillip.weston, Apr 12, 2:26pm
The 2.6L isn't a peaky V6, it's a simple SOHC 12V design like the Falcon, while not many engines can match the low down torque of a Falcon engine, the 2.6 V6 certainly doesn't have 'unusable' torque.

I can understand that some people don't want to go out of their boring comfort zone to give another vehicle time of day which would very much likely end up being a reliable, comfortable to drive, powerful, economical and classy vehicle compared to your average run of the mill stuff. I'm not saying this particular A4 2.6 is one of the above vehicles, but it's certainly worth consideration.

Its as economical as that Audi and significantly more powerful.

phillip.weston, Oct 22, 6:19am
fuel consumption figures for both are 10.1L (some sources say 9.7L)/100km for the Audi and 10.5L/100 for the Maxima. However I would agree, the old 2.6 12V is a tad underpowered at 150hp vs 220hp of the Maxima. The Audi V6 produces its peak torque almost 1000rpm lower than the Maxima.
