Event organisers say the F1 car's lap times will not be recorded for safety reasons.

Don't get that one! why wouldn't they time the laps! how doe's it become a safety issue!

rustihammer, Mar 19, 3:06am
It's not.it is to save face. The F1 time would be light years ahead of any V8 supercar.

pge, Mar 19, 3:15am
SAY IT AIN'T SO ! ! !

After all, the F1 car is half the weight, twice the horsepower, half the height, quarter the frontal area, tyres are twice the width, suspension far more refined and dedicated, . shall I go on!

"To save face" it ain't.it's to stop loonies saying that cars are getting too fast, and should be banned.

Don't forget, there ARE people out there who are absolute nutters, and completely anti'car, to the point that they will latch onto ANY excuse to have them limited, they WILL distort and alter facts to suit THEIR idealism, and to hell with the truth.

rustihammer, Mar 19, 3:22am
Is 3 hundy down conrod considered slow these days!

fordcrzy, Mar 19, 3:37am
whats to stop peple from using a stop watch! pretty easy to time a lap.

rsr72, Mar 19, 3:39am
If so, why do it at all!
The most hilarious excuse for not doing something I have ever heard.
Aussies getting too soft these days.

geedubu, Mar 19, 4:03am
What a completely lame reason for not recording the times! It is no insult to the V8 supercars if Button in an F1 car goes faster, what is this all about, some health and safety bollix!

asa50, Mar 19, 5:42am
Some stopwatches have pointy needles, might put someones eye out

gunhand, Mar 19, 5:51am
maybe its to stop the drivers tring to out do each other (as they do) and put it into a wall hurting the car and the driver. Although few get to badly hurt in a prang but bathurst isnt no F1 track.
But yea bit odd, I would have thought that would be the first question everyone would ask, what time and how fast down conrod.

wotz_it_2_ya, Mar 19, 5:55am
It might get bellied at the dipper

mantagsi, Mar 19, 7:37am
If they are dumb enough to think their falcodore can be pushed into F1 territory I think perhaps they deserve to hit a wall and learn a lesson, but surely these guys aren't that daft that an F1 track time would egg them on to the point they can't handle their cars anymore!

gunhand, Mar 19, 7:44am
I meant the two drivers in the F1 car tring to better the times. But one would assume Button would be quicker as he has had way more time in an F1 car. But bathhurst is an odd track and the F1 car may not be that quick around, who knows! not even us as they wont time it. Yea right they wont.

mantagsi, Mar 19, 8:11am
Gotcha, my mistake :)

fordcrzy, Mar 19, 8:40am
they'll raise the ride height and crank down the down force so it at least makes over the top of the mountain.you can't curb hop a F1 car like you can with a supercar to "straight line" down the hill.

foxdonut, Mar 19, 8:54am
Most likely they don't want to give away driver data to other F1 teams. The car is the 08 version and it'll be detuned for a rough course like Bathurst, but the results could give some information away.

That, and timing gear is probably pretty expensive, no point using expensive approved gear to record what everyone already knows - A formula car is going to be faster around the track than any other class of racer.

i-n-horz, Mar 19, 9:49am
Still.would be good to know the actual lap time.maybe if it's televised live/continuous we could get a rough estimate ourselves then compare times and take the average as final.

foxdonut, Mar 19, 12:02pm
Seems like a waste of a perfectly good engine and some expensive rubber to me.

desertcolt07, Mar 19, 10:36pm
light years is distance not time.lol i read they wont push it past 90%

foxdonut, Mar 19, 10:40pm
I agree, Bathurst in my mind is a more extreme and much rougher combination of Spa and Monaco. It'll be pretty loose tuned suspension.

It'll definitely be faster than the usual cars there, but for F1 it'll be a slow lap.

elect70, Mar 19, 11:48pm
Well on open days on the Nurburgring they wont recordtimes , but if someone on pit wall uses a stopwatchcant stop them .Bet your ass the times get publishedthough unofficial timing . Interesting to compare each others times in respective cars .

rustihammer, Mar 20, 4:13am
Light years are a measurment of distance AND time.Try again.

rustihammer, Mar 20, 4:51am
yes.A measurement of KM that a particle of light travels in a YEAR.KM= distance, YEAR = time.

marcos1, Mar 20, 5:14am
I concur.

gtrmotorsport, Mar 20, 5:27am
I would say that they would not time the laps to stop the competitive nature of racecar drivers as most likley they would not have paramedics on hand and the rescue equipment to retrive a damaged F1 car.

gammelvind, Mar 20, 7:36am
Have to agree with you biker. The distance is of a light year (speed of light a constant, traveling for a fixed period, 1 year) thereby the time is only a factor in determining distance.

Still love to see F1 do a race at Bathurst, that would be a sight to behold.
