they dont want the drivers pushing it

its just a PR exercise before the race & they dont want the cars being put at risk

besides the time will be meaningless, F1 cars cant handle bumpy tracks like bathurst & will need to be set far from what they are designed for

I heard that the loss-making Melbourne GP is under threat. Is this Bathurst run a chance to see if running an F1 race at Bathurst is feasible perhaps!

kcf, Mar 20, 9:48pm
actually I suspect none of the above theories on the "no timing" thing aren't right :)

To run an F1 car on a track, the track actually has to be licenced to have that grade of car running on it.

Bathurst wouldn't meet FIA standards for a car as fast as an F1, as there is no run off etc in many places, insufficient height of safety fences, wrong type of crash barriers etc.Plus of course you'd need a huge wodge of cash to get the track licence, and inspection done.

If you're really determined, you could probably go to www.fia.com and get a list of tracks that meet F1 car requirements.Search for things such as "track grading" or "track grade licences".

So, the only way they would be allowed to run an F1 car at Bathurst will be as a strictly controlled demonstration run.I'm assuming "no timing running" will be a part of those conditions.

fordcrzy, Mar 20, 10:05pm
the car they are using is an old 2008 model so they won't care about that.

kcf, Mar 21, 4:51pm
Doesn't matter if it is a current F1 car or a 2008 F1 car.The track still needs to be running the correct grade of international track licence.

wrong2, Mar 21, 4:52pm
what are you talking about

nothing to do with racing is going on, they are just giving the car a bit of track time

kcf, Mar 21, 5:09pm
www.fia.com look up track licences as to what is allowed on what grade of track.Racing or otherwise. As I stated above that in my previous post, they will have nailed down some sort of agreement to allow a car to be driven on a track that under normal licence conditions it couldn't turn a wheel on.

wrong2, Mar 21, 5:37pm
nothing given that relates to F1 cars being banned from demonstration laps

various teams show off their cars at different places every year. i dont think each showing requires FIA approval

jezz43, Mar 21, 5:50pm
FIA rules probably apply to competitive racing only, i doubt it would include exhibitions

elect70, Mar 21, 6:18pm
^^^ exacerythats all it isnon competitivedemo run , after all ,all the crash barriersfencing isnt in place so no way could it be classed as competiion .And as or run off areasremind mehow many they have at Monaco. But bathhurst would be too rough forF1to ever hold F1 & the cost mega $. It doesnt look likely Aussie will continue with F1 anyway , it just cant afford the ever increasing costcouldntafford to keep the indy cars.Plenty of other countrieswant it .

no, its the distance light travels in a year (2.8x10^8) x (365 x 24 x 60 x 60) meters

rustihammer, Mar 21, 9:16pm
It is also the unit to deterimne the time taken for light to reach a destination from the point of origin. They go hand in hand.

desertcolt07, Mar 21, 9:19pm
no its not. its not a unit of time at all. just distance. fot the time you would need to rearrange v = d/t to t = d/v where v = 2.8x10^8ms-1

rustihammer, Mar 21, 9:22pm
What you believe is what you believe. It dosn't alter the fact that an F1 car would be quicker around bathurst does it!Even running at 90%

desertcolt07, Mar 21, 9:26pm
no way, pity they dont go all out and clock the time.

rustihammer, Mar 21, 9:30pm
For sure. That would be great to see.

skippy33, Mar 22, 2:50am
the stig took one round the top gear track and im pretty sure thats not FIA approved

alby100, Mar 22, 3:44am
you should search youtube "F1 car on streets" there are people who are breaking your rules.

jezz43, Mar 22, 3:46am
since when was the stig driving a car on a private track competitive! hes racing a clock. its not a real race against other competitors

dumbass383, Mar 23, 1:04am
'unofficially'.wink-
wink. the F1 car did the Bathhurst Circuit in 1:48.

rustihammer, Aug 17, 12:43pm
Not bad for a car running at 90% !Shame it is not "official"
