Honda Odyssey with a loose baffle

finn50, Mar 16, 10:12am
Hi,the exhaust system of our Honda makes a loud rattling noise when the engine is cold & idling.Supposedly caused by a loose baffle.Does anyone know a simple way to fix the baffle without replacing the whole exhaust system !Any suggestions as to who might fix it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Who told you is was baffle!
Could be a mount!
Baffling is only used inside mufflers/silencers etc so definitely not a full replacement exhaust needed.

Take it to an exhaust specialist and get it put up on a hoist for a proper inspection.
I generally avoid Midas and Magoo and go independent but it depends on your area.

What part of Auckland!
I'm sure one of the regulars here can recommend someone in your area.

Wow, thanks Jasongroves for the quick replies. The rattle is apparently in "the large muffler".
We live in Newmarket.

No worries.
By large muffler, I'm assuming its the rear muffler.
In most cases with cars I would suggest phoning around for prices, but with exhausts you really need to drive around and get some quotes.
I'm not familiar with Auckland but shopping around is your best bet.
You will be amazed at the difference in prices between one shop and another.

I had the same kind of rattle in my Odyssey once. It turned out to be a broken support bracket between the rear part of the engine block and exhaust pipe, just behind the sump. 10 seconds with the Mig welder sorted the problem out.
