Super, I will keep a close eye on this thread tomorrow so I can help guide you.

I would suggest you perhaps ask morrisman and his band of merry trolls to kindly leave your thread alone. There is a danger of it filling up with a lot of unhelpful nonsense otherwise. Its your thread and its only fair they respect your wishes.

The GTI is a high performance version of the Golf but I am pretty sure it still uses the standard wet clutch DSG. I wouldn't get too worried about liability etc at this point, as I don't see the repair costing more than 10K and if you get lucky it may even be quite minor (don't count on that though).

Once you have the info from Qualitat etc I can be of more help. Its a pity that TM dosn't like us swapping contact details as I would be happy to help you on the phone etc if required. I am sure we can survive on here though and at least someone else may benefit from the info one day.

I am not worried about where the Golf was assembled more just interested as I have seen the Japanese come up with some really interesting ways to damage cars when driving in Japan. If it turns out to be the clutch I wouldn't be surprised if its somehow been abused as the clutch should last several times that millage.

For your interest here is a link to a video of the clutch pack replacement. I havn't looked at it but pretty sure its the one I saw in past. Even though you are not technically minded you should be able to see how straight foward it is and it may put your mind to rest a bit.

BTW, its entirely up to you but I would advise just taking things slow at this point. Don't rush in to sending the car off. taking a day or two to sort out the best course of action may ultimately save time, cost and frustration over the course of the repair.

Like I said I am happy to guide you as much as you need. Ideally I would suggest we just collect the information we need together and then discuss and proceed through each step as the info comes to hand. It shouldn't worry the warranty company if you want to check things yourself and delay sending the car for a day or two.

Again, this is up to you, thats what I suggest and I am happy to assist if you want to proceed in that manner.

kazbanz. I have talked to the sales person today as the principalwas away in auckland. the agent who has my car wants the car they gave to me back. I was upset at the time but they know Im not one to be bull sh**ed about this.I dont feel it is reasonable to be sent to auckland to be "repaired"

morrisman1, Mar 1, 5:48am
Jazz doesnt like people rubbing salt into his wounds. Those big ugly wounds that he received when his lies came back and slashed him while he slept

kazbanz, Mar 1, 5:49am
OYYY NODDY- you are offering silly advice that could cost this poor lady money. --she purchased from a dealer. Clearly she is still driving the car so the dealer could argue the issue was made worse by her continuing to drive the car.
In a nutshell --she needs to get cracking and contact the dealer asap.

dr.doolittle, Mar 1, 5:49am
SHSSSSsssss. we dont want the 'public' to know about euro's(VW's) true reliability.

modie61, Mar 1, 5:51am
I can see a possible banning or 3 coming.

thejazzpianoma, Mar 1, 5:51am
When you say "the car they gave to me" do you mean a courtesy car or your Golf!

I would suggest you call tomorrow and explain that you would rather not send the car to Auckland and that you are getting further specialist advice as to cheaper local repair options (like whether Qualitat can send parts and guide a repairer). Ask them if there is a car you may use over the weekend and explain that you would like to catch up with them on Monday regarding what you have found out and how you would like to proceed. That way you all can take the time to make an informed decision together that all party's are happy with.

kazbanz, Mar 1, 5:52am
Kelsie--Look its entirely possible that the car gets sent to Auckland for repair because the specialist repair centre is is Auckland.
I am guessing the "agent" is a mechanic you took the car to and in fairness they aren't getting the work so want their car back.
This is why you need to talk to the boss at the dealership -explaining you can't be without a car.

thejazzpianoma, Mar 1, 5:54am
My understanding is that the dealer knows, the warranty company knows and that the car may even still be with the repairer. (correct me if I am wrong OP)

What I am saying slow down about is the part about sending the car to Auckland. This may be unnecessary and we certainly don't want the car to wind up there only to be told that the repair is going to be more than 10K.

I agree she should not be driving it in the meantime and if the car dealer will not lend her a car then she should check whether the mechanical warranty people will pay for one. If she has to its best to borrow or even pay for a rental if it comes to it if it buys us a day or so to sort a good course of action.

dr.doolittle, Mar 1, 5:57am
Well spotted that man!

dr.doolittle, Mar 1, 6:00am
Mmm.

dr.doolittle, Mar 1, 6:00am
Mmm.think Ill go back to my watchlist now.

kelsie21, Mar 1, 6:00am
I dont have the gti. the repairer agent has it. the repairer wont get the work as it is too costly hence the option to reject it to the orginal seller. the orginal seller/dealer will give me a car to use at this stage. I have not told them I will reject it but have said I dont think it is fair and reasonable for this to happen so soon after buying a car of this price!

thejazzpianoma, Mar 1, 6:03am
Kazbanz, I know there are a lot of lenghty posts in this thread but I think you should go back and have a slow read. Things like the claim limit etc have been established. The claim limit is 10K and the local repairer wants to replace the transmission for 15K.

What I am wanting to do is find out BEFORE it goes away, what the likely costs and situation is so that the Warranty company and the dealer don't just dump it somewhere stupid who will do the repair for more than 10K and then demand the extra from the OP.

I am trying to get all three party's to work together but at a pace where the OP can check with us to make sure that things sound like they are being done sensibly.

thejazzpianoma, Mar 1, 6:04am
This is excellent and what I was hoping was happening.
As I suggested if you can just get them to hold off until Monday then you have the weekend to get your head around the options and make inquiry's.

Some luck. If it goes the wrong way, at 4 years and just out of warranty, it'll cost well upwards of $10k if you're less than lucky.
DSG belongs in Porsches and other high maintenance cost vehicles, not ordinary family shopping baskets like corollas, golfs etc.

You couldn't be more wrong.
DSG offers better reliability, easier servicing and significantly better economy and power.
Its the perfect transmission for everyday vehicles.

I don't see how it could cost you 10K when you can buy a new complete replacement transmission for under 3K delivered.

Also, funny how Toyota and the others are all rushing their versions to market!

The DSG we are talking about here is more reliable than even Toyota's archaic but supposedly indestructible 4 speed auto in the likes of the Avensis.

The above is from Kelsy's other post above.

neo_psy, Mar 1, 6:05am
Did you buy it from Auckland!
If not, where is the dealer!
If so, I think the dealer should contact a local mechanic of their own choosing or pay for the car to be towed to Auckland.
Or, of course, send someone to you to look at the car.

Stay calm (if you can) in the meantime. You need to speak to the dealer himself - blowing a fuse wont help at all.

If the dealer is a good sort, he may rent a car for you. Or send a towie with a drive car when they take yours away.

thejazzpianoma, Mar 1, 6:07am
BTW, if you prefer kelsie I don't mind ringing Qualitat for you in the morning and getting the prices and some suggested options.

Given I am more familiar with these cars I might be able to extract a little bit more usefull info.

No pressure but happy to do it if it helps you out.

thejazzpianoma, Mar 1, 6:09am
Again, I suggest you make a post telling the trolls to go elsewhere otherwise over time this thread is going to be too hard to follow with all the nonsense going on.

morrisman1, Mar 1, 6:21am
This is what we mean when we say you talk out of your arse Jazz.
