Nope. Never even cleaned the engine bay.

nicstab, Apr 23, 6:19am
yep i brought a car without seeing it was to busy and with 6 people bidding on it i figured at least 1 of them would have gone and kicked the tyres so must have been ok

quickstitch, Apr 23, 6:26am
i have bought about 5 cars off here without viewing them, Dissapointed with one, and the last one i bought had lots of faults the seller failed to mention but i got it at a fair price and i was planning on doing a bit of a rebuild anyway. But the seller was a rogue,

With the one Im picking up tomorrow, After about an hours chat with the owner and quizzing him on heaps of stuff I feel comfortable that he is speaking the truth. He has gone out of his way to show me every blemish that the car has, even ones that nobody would notice or care hugely about. Cars had a good history and shows it in the condition. Ill sure find out how good it is during the 1200km drive home!

Have bought5 cars from USA sight unseen and only 1 was checked out by a friend before I bought it, have spent about 60 grand in purchase only so far with that, and you can more than double that landed, have not had a dud .

kazbanz, Apr 23, 8:12am
Um --about 12 a month every month for the past few years

Everything should be tried before you buy! Gotta know how she handles, also pays to get a look at the older model and see how its holding up.

Bought an 1930's car from south island unseen, new reg and wof, got it transported, turned out the wof was dodgey as, kingpins were munted amongst other things. But yes I would do it again given the right circumstances.

i would buy a decent car from a dealer without looking at it. and i have bought a couple of $500 cars without looking at them and a few motorbikes. in general though, i wouldn't do it! i didnt have any commitments back when i did it. o and the motorbike broke down and i sold it for $2500 less than what i paid for it! so again, not recommended!

casper35, Apr 23, 9:01am
Yes have done it 4 times now with no problems.

Brought a Holden off a Ford dealer sight unseen 8 months ago.Seemed funny parting with all "that money" with online banking. Dealer said, as he was from a smaller Center he did around 2/3rds of his sales on the net now. 8 months on I'm still impressed with the Vehicle and his service.Would buy from again, anytime.

Just recently bought a perfectly bog standard caldina gtt off of TM (the only standard untouched one I've ever seen), agreed to buy after a 5 minute walk around look at the vehicle. The seller put in a new windscreen and did the brakes which I knew about but lo and behold, when I picked the car up it had a full tank of gas, a wad of receipts and history going back to when it was first imported as a signature class toyota, custom translated manuals and quite a few little but valuable extras. None of this extra stuff was mentioned at all, so a hell of a bonus to me. Amazingly it exhibits none of the typical caldina faults, and runs like a swiss watch. the owner probably could have got more for it than what I paid. I guess I got lucky :) I've definately found that getting cars from the north shore or east auckland tends to net some really honest sellers, and sometimes some crazy bargains

Hey would love to hear if it is all that its supposed to be :) have fun driving home

kimini, Apr 23, 11:19am
hey I appreciate hearing from you all, about your experiences with buying cars that you havent actually seen, just wanted to know your thoughts, thank you

kimini, Apr 23, 11:20am
good to hear :)

mone, Apr 23, 11:23am
Yes of course you would buy a car without test driving it.If it had a crazy low low buy-now price, by the time you organise viewing, somebody may have already hit the buy now price.

jason18, Apr 23, 8:35pm
Yeah bought my Ba falcon sight unseen.

esprit, Apr 23, 9:22pm
Nothing I would have found if I was test-driving it. I did have it checked out by a specialist on my behalf, which flagged any relevant issues.

ceedoubleyou, Apr 24, 12:26am
yes, a couple of times now, I always think, most stuff is fixable. Both times cars were $20k, one was 4rs old, the other 43yrs old.

I bought a '68 Jag without seeing it - was on holiday at the time, received a call from family saying 'there's one of those Jags you've been crapping on about on Trademe, closes tomorrow'. Got my dear old Mum to login, ask a pile of questions, and bid for me. I won the auction then crapped my pants the whole way back from holiday. On collection the car turned out to be an absolute minter and came with full history, right back to the first owner - an english chap who came out to NZ to run the NZ Dairy Board and bought the car new. It's probably one of the best unrestored examples in NZ - could have just as easily have been a rusted out POS, I got lucky!

hutchk, Apr 24, 12:44am
Also bought an '86 Jag same way - whilst the seller was somewhat economical with the truth, the car ran like a dream from Auckland to Hastings and the few niggling faults haven't stopped me driving it for two years with no issues. My luck is bound to run out sooner or later.

trogedon, Apr 24, 1:09am

n1smo_gtir, Apr 24, 1:50am
i would generally prefer to meet the seller in person, have a chat, take it for a test drive before deciding. having recently bout one off TM from a local, quite pleased with the purchase. the gentleman did not in anyway try to do the salesman talk and pressure me into the sale. explained what's been done etc. 2nd car i bought through TM, first one was advertised here through Turners and that involved going through their auction process.

end of day, depends on type of car really. a bit of homework always helps.

kimini, Apr 24, 4:50am
that was very luckygood to hear
