They generally do a dam good job working within the frame work that they have, Its all this PC stuff from the UN and the court system that stuffs everything up.

MMmmm. are we to assume that this message board is seen as the most accurate for citizen opinion that there is to be found!A survey of the most repetitive posters etc will show a common factor. It is the same tiny group by comparison with the general public- and I include myself in that. Most only seem to have some sort of beef to expound. Mention certain words in an initial post (e.g. Police) and we shuffle out of the woodwork and have our somewhat biased say. When I read of an individual that can say they have encountered numbers of, many, dozens etc encounters with the Police either directly or second hand then I wonder how they got to be so engaged with Police attention.Heck I work in the legal area and thus engage with Police on many occasions but I can not agree that they are inefficient - far from it.That's from my experience too.

It does help but National said it would add extra cost to the car price,so they scrap it.In other countriesthey have special police units that only deal with car theft,we dont.
thejazzpianoma,
May 19, 1:38pm
The thing is, there is absolutely no point in doing that until the Police are in a position to actually follow up on stolen vehicles.
As it stands you often have to kick up a big fuss to even get the Police to pick up a stolen vehicle that you have already located.
Really crime like car theft is pretty easily solved. That's because most of it is done by a relatively small group of people on a couple of small islands with minimal population miles from anywhere.
That group is pretty easily tracked down and once their offending is stopped car theft will drop substantially. As it stands each offender is left to commit offence after offence after offence before they are apprehended. When they are eventually apprehended its often by members of the public rather than the Police themselves.

Jazz when did your personal experiences start to become 'often'! A word used to often in your last post. The most recent figures indicate about 20% of stolen vehicles are recovered. That's actually better than I thought it would be, and a damn sight better than the picture you're painting.
As I said above, but it fell on deaf/bias ears, vehicle thefts are declining.
pollymay,

I'd say thefts are declining mostly due to ecus that require an unlock code from a magnetic key or similar. Cars are just getting harder to steal as the fleet gets newer. What they can't steal they will vandalise, pull the stereo and make tracks, know that from experience.
thejazzpianoma,

20% recovery rate is nothing to be proud of. Especially as a good proportion of that 20% is probably actually recovered by the general public and a substantial proportion of whats left will be joyriders etc abandoning the cars down the road.
If things are really improving thats great but we have such a long long way to go we really still need to do sort things out properly.
The day that Police are actually actioning 95% of Burglaries, thefts etc in a timely manner and 99.99% of life threatening situations in a timely manner is the day we can be proud.

Come on now, don't be too harsh. I'm sure they'll send a taxi out or something! =D

Instead of filling this messageboard with the same old. thejazzpianoma why don't you get into a council or even politics. Its not hard to set your own party up. Some of us just get a bit tired of the righteous attitude.
jmma,

Who made you spokesman for "some of us" speak for yourself man. Say " I get a bit tired."

I'm not even attitudedesignzsaid the same. You always have a dig at me so nothing new.

johnf_456 I used to wonder who the hair dryer companies had in mind when they attached a big ticket to the cord that says "Do not use in the shower".
Now I understand.
When the thread is about why the government is not doing enough about car thieves content like mine is what is likely to be discussed. If you don't like reading it then. don't read it!
Have a lovely evening and don't go putting any knives in the toaster.

Try this, actually these. 1. Rolls Royce bumper stolen from panel shop.Police advised along with potential suspect. No luck.Victim makes own enquiry by devious means.Locates bumper and offender.Hammers police for 6 months and offender finally charged.Convicted and awarded $300 restitution as prosecuting cop didn't belive Coutts quote of $3g and told court it must be a mistake as a bumper couldn't possibly be worth that much. 2. Tandem trailer stolen and appears on TradeMe.Police advised and make enquiry of seller and establish yes stolen property but allow it to be sold.5 years later "still making enquiries".Now with IPCA.Chance of recover/compensation now is less than nil.
3.Local cops mother's house alarm has problem with false alarms.Usual response is up to 5 cars and the K9 unit. This several times a week.Friend has burg takes cops 3 weeks to locate Plasma TV under hedge at neighbours.TV spends a month at station before friend claims it after being told by neighbour that cops found it and took it away.Cop with berg file has no idea it has been found.
I agree with Jazz the "system" is uesless. Most cops do their job but the "system" fails them and nothing ever achieved. The "system' spends too much time and resources on justifing itself than it does on actually getting on with the day to day work.
I've worked with the Court "system" for 30 years. It is an utter shambles and about as effeciet and effective as a Lada factory.

Thanks cowlover, thats pretty much exactly the same sort of stuff I have come accross first hand time and again. Only thing is my list is much longer and I would rather not take the time to write it all up.
Once you get a peek behind the scenes you don't need the survey's because this sort of nonsense is the norm rather than the exception in many area's.

Technically it's not the polic's fault nz is harbouring a country full of scumbags. they are short resourced and when they do do something right the case gets treated like a joke in court. the judges that hands out pitty sentences and our useless frickin politician and law makers are the ones that needs a blardy good shafting. the govt n justice systems fails the society. they allow the hiring of useless incompetent cops. let judges continuously discount heavily on sentences based on bad upbringing, etc.

cars are too easy to steal. it's pretty sad when a slightly worn 1990 nissan primera key can open a 2002 GTR skyline's drivers door.
etc etc.
johnf_456,
May 19, 8:53pm
lol, unfortunately nz lacks the resources to sufficiently deal to the amount of trouble makers that go around daily make peoples lives pure misery. The thing is not everything can be dealt to.
jmma,

Not a dig, just saying, man up and say something yourself for a change .
You truly are unbelievable. Instead of sitting on your 'high horse', get out and change things. It's not hard to get into council and then progress up from there.
I'm getting so tired of your self rightous attitude.

Just to lighten things up a bit.Years ago one afternoon heard a funny crashing sound from next door.Looked out and saw someone carry the TV through the garden.Rang cops and 2 cars responded.1st car pulls up at end of neighbours drive just in time to be T boned by the offender trying to drive off.Cop from 2nd car comes over to thank us for the call etc and trying to keep a straight face says glad he wasn't first casuse now 1st car driver will spend about a week explaining the foot deep dent in the side of the car.Did arrest the offenderwho it turns out was on way home from pub (blotto) and decided needed some money so stoped "to do some shopping" from her neighbours - lived 5 doors away.I'd have shot her quite frankly had it been my house she decided to "shop" at!

One day you will learn others can have the same opinion about the same thing. I like Blue, I better hope no one else likes blue!
Personally I think its a waste of time harping on here about it, it will not get noticed by people higher up that actually make decisions! If you feel that strong about and want to make change, then go for the skies and do it. A messageboard rant will go un noticed, as said earlier there is just far to many criminals in this country going around endless making trouble and the police cannot simply keep up with it. So some minor crimes do often go unnoticed as a result.
