Hi there, looking at getting a 97 VW gold GLI. I'm looking at an auto one which appears to be missing its top gear. What are the possible problems! Quite a major I imagine! Any info or input would be great. Thanks

I've heard that VW transmissions are really expensive to fix.Know someone that spent over $2k getting one fixed not to long ago.Other may be able to help further.

give it a miss - you could easily spend the cars value just fixing up the transmission. Find a Golf with a working transmission to begin with.

Its a cheap car, just trying to figure out if it is worth fixing. That was the idea.
