I asked that same question on here years ago.
It certainly is an oddball looking truck.
Some one did come up with the answer when i asked it. Apparently they were a lot more common than I thought as I had never seen one before.

Definitely a late 1930s GMC. Have a look at Richard Doody, Vintage trucks, page 1, 20 & 21 lines down. Grill is virtually identical.

I went more by the headlights, the way they blend sort of Willys style is closer to chev than anything
quick google images search for 'chev coe' & the early-mid 40s seem purty durn close
