VTNZ do a full cof precheck, this will give you a comprehensive list of what will be required.

yes, but VTNZ dont do house calls.

skin1235, Dec 31, 9:55pm
what model commer, what is the intended use, how much of the original truck is to be used ( housebus/truck, strip to chassis rails and build new deck/box etc)

Dont be a tight ass take it to VTNZ get them to do their test on it. So if you get a mechanic around do they have portable rollers to test the brakes etc.Portable headlight aligners etc.
If you got someone around and they said it will pass and you pay them then take to VTNZ and pay them and it fails because they have the right equipment to do the job you will be pissed of.
I bet it is a horsetruck the worst vehicles on the road.

actually its an old commer fire appliance, the brigade have purchased it with the intention of repairing to use it at community events. its not about the process of going through a COF, all we are after is someone who is qualified to come have look, explain what will need to be done, rather than trucking it all over the city.

You have to be very careful nowadays about just taking a truck in for a COF without having it gone thru for a Pre COF check with a truck workshop. They now rate you on how much is wrong and also when the likes of the CVIU pull you over on the side of the road, if there is to many faults or you keep getting picked up on faults if your rating gets to low they will revoke your GSL and put you off the road.

Hopefully all the dirty indian O/Ds for toll and round town clown container shifters will start disapperaing then.

Hey.

have an old commer truck that we would like to repair up, is there anyone on here from the wellington region that is able to have a look and give an honest opinion without putting through a full cof test - we aware of most of the problems, just need a qualified person.

Thanks

If you are aware of most of the problems.

Then why not take it for a COF and go from there!

How's the chassis and body rust!

rose021, Dec 31, 10:15am
vehicle is unroad worthy, cost of a transporter + cof costs, make it unfeasible to be taken somewhere just for a look over.

body is perfect, chassis has a small amount, but nothing that cant be repaird, more trying to find someone who can give an idea on what would be required to bring it up to specs. will need a whole new braking system, but someone who is qualified can hopefully run through it all etc.
