Captiva owners a moment please.

Hi all, I brought an 2006 captiva Dec last year since then we have experienced a whole host of problems, searching the net tonight i found a lot of people in Australia have been experiencing the same things, and even discovered that there has been a recall on My model captiva over there (my chassis number even is in the recall numbers). Just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing a lot of faults with these cars, as i will be contacting holden as soon as i can. This was our dream car which is now becoming a nightmare and im determined to get something done about it.

Within two days of owning it had to go back because the front bumper popped off, heater was blowing cold and rear windscreen wiper didnt go, thought ok you get these things. 1 month later on new years day done a day trip from the mount to whangamata, was coming down the hills and would go around a corner to the right, and there would be a knocking coming from the back left rear area, and handling was wobbly, so called the people we got it from and they came and picked it up the next day, we noticed on the same side the tyre had worn down, they gave it a wheel alginment and blew us up cos they couldnt find anything, a month later we had washed it two weeks in a row and each time we washed it we would move it back to infront of the garage then go to go out later and it wouldnt start, would turn oveer but no fire, would be like that for about 20mins then would go again. Then went to a wedding down the line, and the knocking was back, so got pretty angry after being told by dealer it was in our head. Was then told the washing thing was a co-inincidence but no reason for it not going and the knocking was heard but at extreme turns that would not be possible on the roads. so accepted what they had to say. Then a month ago battery died had it on the vault meter was holding 12V then put it back in car and wouldnt go. finally got it going and engine light pops up so rang them, they say bring it in, go to start it to take it in, engine light gone. so carried on. Last week on the way to tech driving along felt the car loose power engine light and traction and stability control light comes on, soo take it back they reset computer and gave it back, fuel consumption has been crazy put $30 in was just under half drove from servo to school no more then 2kms, it used 50kms worth of gas, then to hamilton and back (from te awamutu) used 130kms worth of gas. three days after getting it back, engine light comes back on, take it back in, holden guy tells use the guys in the workshop thought it was a battery problem, which it clearly is not, got it back today hubby took it down the road just before and although the engine light is not on the fuel consumption is excessive again, and can feel it loosing power again.

Yeah they have been really good with repairs ill give them that. What worries my is the recall in Australia that my chassis number happens to be included in. These problems seam to be a common occurrence for the early model captiva's hence me trying to see if any one in new zealand is having problems. I personally do not believe this amount of cars should be having the same problems without the company doing something about it. There is a huge number of people in aussie with the same stuff. all it takes is a simple google search of 2006 captiva lx problems to see that one.

Chickee those vehicles are just junk I am afraid to say. Worse still Holden are absolutely terrible when it comes to the price of parts and service. My advice is to sell it before its old enough that Holden can wash their hands of it and start charging you obscene amounts of money to work on it.

I have seen first hand how a Holden dealer refused to honor the fair trading and consumer guarantees acts and when this was pointed out to them in a letter their response was to ring up and brow beat the owner. When I pointed out on here that these people had been charged twice the quoted price for half the quoted work to completed the knuckle dragging chimpanzee's in the motor trade on here just made nasty personal attacks against me. (Note I said "knuckle dragging chimpanzee's" that isn't everyone on here or everyone in the motor trade but does cover a disturbing amount)

You are better to buy something that Holden (or anyone else) does not have a monopoly on parts and service for and that has a good reputation. Unfortunately that means ignoring the silly and misleading advertisements on T.V and most of NZ's inept motor trade. Pick something that has good independent genuine parts importers and that is well built.

My personal pick if you can afford one would be to trade up to a Skoda Yeti, that actually WILL give you amazing fuel economy, versatility and excellent reliability.

Best of luck.

the fuel economy on the trip can vary dependant on how the vehicle is driven so dont worry about that but do remember you have bought a daewoo rebadged as a holden so dont expect to much.

You used 50km worth of petrol in 2kms!Is this a Rail we are talking about, its gotta be.surely.

modie61, Jun 29, 6:01pm
What does 50kms worth mean ! My car would use about $10 worth to do 50k. Best to just fill it up,reset your trip meter and see how many ks you get to the tank full.

wasser61, Jun 29, 6:54pm
Have you taken the vehicle to a local Holden dealer to see if the vehicle has had all the service campaigns (recalls) that it should have had.
Some slip through the cracks and get missed.

Thay have the nick name of CRAPtiva's and thats coming from a mate who works for a holden dealership,he says get rid of it

I see jazz spieling his tripe against against mechanics again. I must be one of those "ooga booga" chimps he is waffling on about as i worked for Holden in the past. I'm the first to agree the Captiva isn't the best thing ever to come out of the GM global group and I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole but at least (unlike our jazz) I have a background and knowlage to comment rather than just being a one line (Euro is best) monocular ape.
If the origional poster is unhappy with their Holden service, change service providers. Unlike jazz's beloved Sodas, Fiats and Krautwagons (VWs) Holden have service providers in most large and mediam centers and once you find a good one you may be surprised what backup you get.

timmo1, Jun 29, 8:27pm
It's a Holden, lots of problems and dealers that don't want to know about them come with the territory.

thejazzpianoma, Jun 30, 12:55am
LOL, what a pointless and silly argument as always. Not only are there PLENTY of VW specilaists around the whole point as discussed above is you don't NEED a VW specialist. This is because the product is more reliable AND parts are not tied up by Holden, you can take your pick of genuine parts from several local providers.

Anything Holden touches (like Volvo for instance) if they can establish a monopoly they just take the micky out of pricing.

Its not a crime that the best vehicle of that type is the Yeti, I am far from being along in that opinion its had countless awards and huge kudos from the worlds motoring press.

treachug, Jun 30, 3:35am
Jazz, having worked for a Holden dealer selling Holden parts for approx 28 years or so, I know the background behind Holden NZ's parts pricing.do you! (not being nasty here)
I just cannot understand why you always bag them.your posts used to be informative & interesting & dare I say it, reasonably knowledgeable (lol).

merrigj, Jun 30, 3:53am
I have one 2007 diesel LX never missed a beat love it.Maybe you got a lemon!

berg, Jun 30, 4:16am
Ummm jazz, Volvo was brought by FORD not Holden back in 1999. If you wish to make others look like idiots please get your facts right. Otherwise it makes YOU look like the idiot.MA

pdsports, Jun 30, 4:35am
we have a 2007 and not had problems either (touch wood)

berg, Jun 30, 4:56pm
Pssst, hey jazz, I think it was in fact Saab that GM (not Holden but Holdens parent company) purchased back in 1989 with the remaining shares purchased in 2000.
Saab under GM may have gone OK too but for the Saab side of the equation insisting they did their own thing even after being instructed to comply with GMs global platform requirements (very public spat with plenty of available reading if you wish to dig) eventually resulting in completely orphen cars with completely one off parts requirements. Hmm, that may just explain why parts for GM owned Saab's were so expensive and why GM then sold Saab to Spyker in 2010. There you go jazz, some actual facts you can use rather than your normal dribble.

Don't go the yeti way, they seem to have transmission problems too.

I used to work in Australia for beaurepaires as a wheel aligner, one day I had a captiva come in for a 4 wheel alignment. I went to adjust the rear and it didn't have a rear adjustment, just a straight through bolt, Holden hadn't fitted the proper toe adjuster, and hadn't checked it properly before it had left the factory. According to the records(and I'm only going by beaurepaires computer records) it had chewed its way through 4 sets of tyres in 84,000 Kms. What should have been a 15 minue job took over an hour.

Sorry to say but over the ditch they are called craptiva's.

Good luck with getting it all sorted
