Holden 308 hot starting problem

manda00, Jun 29, 8:34am
Hi I have a Ht with a 308 starts fine when cold but sounds like it has a flat battery when you try to start it hot.
If you leave it for a few minutes it fires up think it may be starter getting too hot. Any ideas or similar problems other people have had with these!
Thanks.

Starter overheated - resistance - failure

My commodore used to do that,i wired up a relay to the starter motor.

Cheers starter is quite old maybe time for a recon

Could also be vapour lock . My 318mildly workedcharger diid it, loweredfloat level slightly & put a heat riser block between carb & manifoldcured it. As above if starter old the rear bush could be wornallowing contact between stator & rotor. That happened on my XD coon

I got 97 commodore wit 304. Exactly same problem. Got the starter recond last week $220 but right as rain now

My old Statesman used to do that, put heavier leads to the starter and make sure the motor is well earthed to chassis
