Scooter not starting cold

I've got a suzuki sj50qt, I can't start it cold without giving it a squirt of engine start or holding a petrol soaked rag up to the carbie. Once its been running its fine but once its been sitting for a couple of hours it won't start unaided. Have these got some sort of auto choke or something! Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers

electric choke is usually on scooters, common fault

Could be any of a few things.
Spark plug
Dirt in carby
Electric choke

Scooters for some reason appear to suffer badly from dirt in the carby
2 strokes do tend to chew through spark plugs on a regular basis.

The SJ50 has an electric choke - could be that the wire has come off the carb. Otherwise it will need a new choke mechanism. Would probably be easier to buy a 2nd hand carb.

I have a couple of spare carbs lying around so if you need one just let me know.
