ive got an xg xr6 ute, manual, tickford 4.0 which ive had for a couple of years now and want to upgrade to a 351. would i be better of finding a motor to put in my xg, or selling it off and getting a cheaper xf ute!

those xr6 are getting thin on the ground keep it std and go find a XD-XF ute if you want to put a V8 into it.
Ive been told the XD utes accept the V8 better than the XF due to the heater hose outlets.

Look at the power and torque figures of what you have vs a stock 351 and ask yourself if it is really worth the hassle. Unless you've got performance upgrades for the 8 in mind there isn't that much in it.

161 kw and 363nm torque for the 4.0 and 194 kw and 481 nm torque for a STOCK 2 barrel 351, its well worth it.

Source for those last two figures!A standard XD or XE level carbed 351 doesn't produce that much.

seen a nice xr8 ute (used to own one myself ) for sale for 10k a while back.
They come up now and again. Why bother to transplant an 8 in to an old ute. ie xf etc when for not a lot of money you could buy a nice xr8 ute all ready done and all factory standard which will hold its value much better. Ride better and look better.
Do a search on trademe. Nice au , not that I like the au's but thats only $7500. Higher k's but I think still better than doing up an older ute thats seen much better years.

Just a thought or two for you.
