Do these vehicles have engine brakes like trucks do, mine seems to slow down straight away when i take my foot of the accelerator like when you use the brake and then takes off again when i step back on the gas.

Yes they do, be sure not use them in residential areas though!

Try releasing the handbrake.

The pesky light on the dash will go away as well.

Handbrake is released when taking off, but as soon as i take my foot off the accelerator it slows down straight away without applying the brake like engine brakes on trucks.

Someone let your tyres down!

Did you mean CR-Z!

Those are a Hybrid so you would get a bit of regenerative braking when you lift right off the throttle. but they didn't begin selling those until 2010.

If it's a 1996 CR-X (or a 1986 CR-X) then something is wrong.

Assume they mean a CR-V.
