Spark Plugs - Champion N.8.B

Hi all, the handbook for my 54 Super Snipe (4 litre OHV BLUE RIBAND engine) specifies a Champion N.8.B spark plug (it's written with the dots between the letters).Obviously that number is long gone in the current cross reference charts. It's got N9Y in it at present and they appear to work but just out of interest I wonder if anyone out there knows what the N.8.B converted to!Or any suggestions as to the best plug for that engine.TIA

You will probably find that the N9Y was in a previous crossover chart, it is likely 1 stage hotter than the original plug ans with an extended nose which the original probably never had. One stage hotter is no real problem in an older motor.

I did find that but unless there has been a big change in the Champion heat range number system it would appear to be a big leap.Having said that my 1997 NGK book has the equivalent for an N8 and a RN5C as a NGK B6ES/BR6ES.The N9Y converts to a BP6ES.So the only difference would be the projecter nose on the plug.Looks like the N9YC/BP6ES will be fine.

Snipes are getting a bit of age to them now and the engine is a big lazy donk so a warmer plug wont do any halm. We used to service 2 of them here and both had 9NYC in them.

What is the latest Champion spark plug which has superceded the N8. This is the plug originally specified for my 1951 Sunbeam Talbot 90.
