Do you mean that it stops running as soon as you release the key! It will be worn/dirty contacts in the ignition switch assembly if so. Fairly easy and cheap to replace - (replacement contact/loom assembly about $100)
This gives different symptoms - i.e. won't start at all when cabin is hot. I've had both problems in my Honda Ascot - common problems with the early 90's Hondas - all models, it seems - lots of common shared parts!

Try holding the key slightly off the 'on' position detent against the pressure of the spring towards the 'start' position - but not too far - does it run this way! If so, the contacts are worn!

Remember the ol ballast resistor!. Cheapest easiest fix I have ever had
