Fuel gauge fault?

What is wrong with it! 94 Subaru legacy wagon, auto non turbo, last few days its been bouncing around a bit. as in it starts on half a tank then 50m down the road it drops to below E, then goes up to quarter slowly then stays there. next time it might go down half way to E then back up to nearly half again. I know how many kms I usually do for the amount of gas I put in. Should I look into getting a cleaner or something for the fuel tank! (not sure if you can get them) or just leave it and hope for the best!

common on the older subs, they have 2 sender units connected in series they get a little ,wornwith age removingthem and cleaning the track and pretension the wiper usually sorts it . Lift the back seat remove the inspection covers, the legacy has 2 tanks looped together one sender unit in each tank,

Plenty on info on google re subaru fuel gauges

So it would be pretty easy with the help of google for a not so car minded person! Didnt really want to take it to the mechanic and spend god knows what on something else. lol
