Based on an article I read it came in at $10k per year for a car doing approx 14,000 km per year. or approx $190 per week. The article didn't state if this included car paymentsor age of vehicle. My guess was it involved gas , maintenance , reg , wof and tyres etc.i.e no car ownership payments

Do you think is realistic.! Seems kind of high ! (though I guess it depends on the car and it's age etc )

My wife gets a allowance to use her car for work so based on her allowance which is 75cents per km works out to be $10500 for 14000km. The allowance is meant to cover petrol, oil, tyres, registration etc. So $10k a year would be about right for the average car. No money for repayments etc. Depreciation has not been allowed.

I would have thought that figure allows for depreciation.

The gubbinment FUEL costson the cars I have here (from 1.3-3.0l)
vary from $1500 a year to $3000 a year.
Im being REALLY negative here allowing $1000 a year for servicing and $600 a year for wof and rego. So I get $4600 a year totalto run an average car for a year, based on 14000km/y

It certainly doesn't cost me 10k a year to run my car!

This may include long term buying and repalcement costs.

Wouldn't be so bad for the bike, but still getting F'd in the A for the BS Rego costs.

salary package with car. Is based around 10-12k

I do about 20,000km a year, fuel cost alone is around $1300, then add a years rego, 2 wofs, 2 oil changes and filters

I had cause to claim travel costs from ACC to run my vehicle. They paid out a whopping 28c / km. I queried it and quoted a government website that stated employees using their own vehicle for work related running would be paid 75c / km. ACC assured me that 28c was realistic, fair and reasonable. So the answer must be somewhere between 28 and 75 cents per kilometre!

you have one economical car!

None of you own a commodore do you!

Costs about $100,000 a year to run

v8_mopar, Aug 20, 11:53am
Thats why they sell more than falcons because you have to buy a new one every year if you want a good working one ;)

thewomble1, Aug 20, 2:54pm
Try using a cheaper towing company.or bulk buy the tows.

smac, Aug 20, 8:29pm
Motorcycle! Diesel go-cart! Typo! Or somebody is getting screwed over.

morrisman1, Aug 20, 8:35pm
just drive the tow truck, its what you'll end up in anyway

mm12345, Aug 20, 8:55pm
$55 per WOF!
Jeesh - I pay $38 at my local closest workshop.

smac, Aug 20, 9:00pm
Standard testing station price. For some the convenience outweighs the $10-$15 difference.

johnf_456, Aug 20, 9:04pm
I wouldn't be to sure about that.

johnf_456, Aug 20, 9:04pm
Does that include tyres from constant tyre burning!

mm12345, Aug 20, 9:10pm
Hells bells.I despise the local testing VTNZ testing station, ever since they failed me for a warrant in about 1998 for"stuffed steering drag bar ball joints" in my Nissan Safari.I finally replaced the ball joint(s) about a month ago (14 years later) - when they were actually starting to show signs of wear.VTNZ "WOF tester" insisted that as they were leaking grease, they were stuffed. He, and his "manager" wouldn't accept that the grease nipple on the joint and the small slot in the boot were meant to be there, and that if there was no free play, then they were fine. You can't argue against expertise like theirs.I will never go to a VTNZ station again.
My local workshop uses real mechanics.Skilled honest people you can talk to.
