treachug, Sep 9, 5:22am
UD is the heavy commercial truck manufacturer for Nissan & 100% owned by Volvo

I wonder what happened to cause the roof to flatten and collapse so evenly.

Weakness, of just a freak accident!

treachug, Sep 9, 5:25am
sudden meeting with Tarseal.

treachug, Sep 9, 5:26am
almost like its dropped down rear end first then cab down on to the ground

kingfisher21, Sep 9, 5:49am
Surely not, no way, according to some certain person in the south island tanker drivers are the best in the world and never have accidents or speed.

bundy30, Sep 9, 6:33am
The tank has come off and the cab has taken the impact as the vehicle has rolled.
Remember the tanker has a moving liquid in it which causes a huge amount of momentum.
It's similar to dropping a bottle of coke or water on the ground, It gathers speed and rolls away. The tank on the truck is the coke / water bottle and the truck axles and cab is taking the full impact to slow it down each time it turns over and over.

European trucks such as Scania, Volvo, Mercedes have the best / strongest cab design to protect the occupants.
As the saying goes, You get what you pay for. The cheaper trucks have less frills and less safety features.

Most Fuel Companies and most Dairy Companies in NZ buy Scania, Volvo, Mercedes for safety as well as their performance and reliability.

chris_051, Sep 9, 8:34am
Yep dunno why people/companies buy that archaic jap shit.

bundy30, Sep 9, 9:12am
Because its all about the dollar and not about safety and well-being of the driver.

"Driver serious after milk tanker crashes." Really! I thought he'd be joking about it by now.

ash4561, Sep 9, 9:29am
Do Open Country have the cheapest with less safety features and Fontera dont have any of those or do they both have good ones and crap ones in their fleets!

ash4561, Sep 9, 9:29am
Do Open Country have the cheapest with less safety features and Fontera dont have any of those or do they both have good ones and crap ones in their fleets! Or did open country buy them second hand.

splinter67, Sep 9, 7:29pm
Get real tip any truck over like that and the cab will crush

bmc460, Sep 9, 7:44pm
the euro trucks wont as they've been built to withstand impacts like that.

splinter67, Sep 9, 7:47pm
You might want to look at the scainia that hit the building in sanson a little while ago.

flack88, Sep 9, 7:52pm
The truck might be built to withstand impacts like that ,but the human body isnt.Alot comes down to luck.

serf407, Sep 9, 8:11pm
Volvo usually put a bit more into the vehicle safety features.

splinter67, Sep 9, 8:20pm
Great vid pity they stopped showing the truck that was about to squash its roof and who owns nissan trucks

noswalg, Sep 9, 8:32pm
Open country dairy have crap tankers compared to Fonterra that are just completing a massive upgrade. I wouldn't expect much more from the Talley's though their employment relations history is about as good as their trucks
