Before you rip the cat apart, the lamp will illuminate if the fuel mixture in the exhaust is too rich OR too lean. Causes are air leaks / backfire but to mention a few. Provided there is no obvious hot smell issuing from under the car then it is safe to drive to the garage for a check.

Only 100% Correct advice given so far is to get it the garage for a check.
There is no certainty what it is, it could be a range of things. Its telling you it needs attention!
