Renowned landspeed racer, Andy Sills, has claimed yet another record under his belt. He has taken a 2012 BMW S1000RR all the way up to 204.784 mph (329,567 km/h) during the BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials, which took place on August 29th. He competed in the Partially-Streamlined Natrually Aspirated 1000 cc class, and the run took place at the Mecca of the speed junkie - the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Bump. I'm interested too. Bert's million year old Indian with home made pistons vs 2012 BMW. Excellent. Not putting the Beemer down, just exalting in Bert's achievements. I bought the dvd and watch it now and then. What a man.

I think it may have been in another category, the BMW"competed in the Partially-Streamlined Natrually Aspirated 1000 cc class" , Bert's may have been 'streamlined' to start ! Hopefully someone will know and let us know.

Nothing at all to do with Munro, he holds the record for the worlds fastest speed recorded on an Indian, the official time was somewhere around 285km/h. His record I dod beleive was for sub 60ci v-twin and fully streamlined (correct me if I'm wrong)
That S1000RR is mighty impressive, would like a better write up though. Managing that speed on a bike takes some very, very clever aerodynamics

Of course you are correct but I was interested in the actual top speed achieved and not really looking at whether they were in the same category

had the digital speedo on me old gxr1000 wound out to 299kmh many a time down 25 towards tthe coromandel. Sounds good until 10% speedo error is taken into account. Same story with the 1/4 mile, 240kmh thru the traps = 219kmh on the time sheet. Makes me laugh when guys on 600cc brag about hitting 270kmh. TUI.
